One of my car leases matures in 2 months, but I already got the CA DMV registration renewal notice. Do I have to pay it?
So I leased my car for 3 years:
1st year = CA DMV registration fee was added to drive-off
2nd year = CA DMV registration fee was paid normally
3rd year = CA DMV registration fee was paid normally
Received CA DMV registration renewal notice: ???
I plan on paying off the lease and returning the car a couple of days before the CA DMV registration renewal due date and filing a “Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability.” Would that work? Kind of don’t want to pay the registration for another year…
I wonder if the DMV is going to force me to pay the renewal before processing my notice of transfer.
If you are returning the car then don’t pay the registration. They mail them out early.

Ah, okay. Good to know! Thank you!
I bet a lot of people forget that their car lease is maturing soon and end up paying the renewal.
I am in same boat as you. I just tossed the renewal in the trash.
That is one reason a 39-month lease isn’t a good idea…you have to pay the renewal for the 3 month stub period.

Oh snaps, so true, never thought about that. No wonder Honda and some other car dealerships love offering that.
I have a question regarding CA registration. My existing lease, credit app and license has my San Fran address. I’m in the process of moving to San Diego. For my new lease this week, can I give my parents address in SD for new car registration, even though my license and new credit app/old loyalty account will have my old SF address. I’m trying to avoid having to change the address at DMV and lease docs in a month or two. I’m not sure if there will be an issue on my credit app when I put my old address and request new SD address for registration. And I figured since my credit file doesn’t have my parents address I don’t want to risk applying for the lease using a new address on credit file. Confused. Any advice? Thank you
I can’t imagine why you’d have a problem with that. People move all the time. But any F&I guy here would be able to say for sure.

Not sure but they might require new address verification since supposedly it won’t be on your license or previous credit app or account profile.
