Never ever valet, especially after watching that movie .
I read several articles about this crazy experience and I feel awful for the owner. I don’t know if he bought the car or leased it, however I would demand a different car, that car was not even broken in. Every time I got in it I would just think about how some loser beat the hell out of my brand new expensive ass Corvette and I what forever feel it is tainted….
Those valet ticket release of liability statements don’t hold up, a few years ago I was going to my dentist here in San Diego I valeted My jaguar XF. The valet service was ace parking which is well-known on the West Coast. After getting my car back I immediately noticed that the valet had pushed the start button so hard that it cracked. This was a $1200 fix from my local jaguar dealership, I did not even threaten litigation and Ace parking paid up the total amount, I guess I was lucky.
Watch Valet Stories, they show what they pay for and what they don’t.
There was a guy who crashed into other people’s cars…and they definitely weren’t paying for that.
Oh I definitely will, I was surprised that I didn’t have to pressure them, but literally I mean I got in the car and went to press the start button and my finger went all the way down and like literally almost cut it, but you know for that and many other reasons that’s why I run a dash cam in all my cars😀
I’m pretty sure that a service technician would have the tools/software needed to override any kind of valet mode. If the car is in the shop for something that requires a road test they would need to be able to (reasonably) push it to see if the issue can be replicated or if it has been solved.
This is a big one, I’m pretty sure that you need to be a Corvette certified technician to touch one of these. Makes you wonder who was driving it and why they would throw away that kind of job for a joy ride, if they were indeed a Corvette tech. I would guess that the specialty technicians probably get paid more than a regular mechanic and that certification would be useless at any other dealer. I doubt any other GM dealer is gonna hire you after hearing about this. They don’t identify the person in question or their actual title so I’m wondering if maybe it was a lot attendant or something. I refuse to believe that a Corvette tech (or even a standard Chevy mechanic) is dumb enough to not know that the car has a data recorder, or how to disable/delete it.
In some cars, you can set a software governor for 55/65/etc. No reason it needs more than that.
And I’m sure they could reflash/reset things, but the result is usually obvious.

No porter should be driving something like this off the lot - period. From a parking spot to cleanup and back.

Absolutely. I could see some dumb kid getting a bright idea like this on a slow day, not a technician with the experience and salary that would most likely come with being certified to work on Corvettes. You’re probably approaching six figures at a good dealership, why would you throw that away for a 20 minute joy ride racing a Charger? I remember when I had my Volt it was a pain in the neck to get serviced because they only had one certified Volt technician on staff and that was for a silly issue with a faulty window regulator that anyone probably could have done. If they wouldn’t let anyone do that job on a 35k Volt I don’t think they are letting just anyone touch a C8 with a potential engine issue, unless they did it without permission.

85mph limit
every single car a mechanic or car salesman has access to that is fun to joy ride, has absolutely been hooned. now we got the tech to catch them but like yeah thats the deal

85mph limit
Briefly researching, it seems like a GM scan tool can disable teen driver and valet mode. Makes you wonder why they wouldn’t if they were planning on doing something this dumb.
As long as the car isn’t damaged I don’t see a reason to be upset. I’ve had technicians do it in my Aventador and GT3RS during road testing (I reset trip settings beforehand to see average and max speed). The car is meant to be driven.
148 mph on public crowded roads though? I get that a tech might need to push a car to ensure that it’s where it needs to be, but the behavior in that video was flat out irresponsible in their own car, let alone someone else’s property.

GT3RS
Is that one of the Porsches that has the redline counter? I’ve heard that can be a resale issue if someone has one that’s been redlined too many times.

And broken-in
Ethan is so nice to dealers who joyride his cars.

My understanding is that you essentially drive them for a while then sell them. You are very different than the dad force 1 and Jorts wearing demographic who baby corvettes for 30+ odd years and think they have something special because they have the only blue on white made on a rainy day in September.

There are plenty of people who buy Porsche GT products who do the same and then try to pull profit in a few years when the market is right.

48 mph on public crowded roads though?
Dangerous to the public, but not harmful to a C8.

They all have the over rev log, but nobody really cares on a PDK since bouncing off the rev limiter will only get you type 1-2. They check the MT cars because of 5->2 money shifts.
