Interesting. So this is not as restrictive as volvo, where it must go back to a Volvo dealership on a trade, nor BMW where only the 1st party or a BMW dealership can buy it out, but what they’ve effectively done is circumvent all the third party buying services: Carvana, Carmax, room, etc.
As restrictions go in this market, I like it. Curious if range rover and jaguar will be included…
Correct. I read this as any new car dealer (not just Subaru) can buy it / accept on trade and payoff. But not “Hershey’s ‘buy here / pay here’ used cars of Scranton”
This looks like the language that has been on most buyouts for a long time. BMW, honda, etc all have had language like this for years. It’s preventing 3rd party private party sales… which no one has ever allowed.
I’d go as far as speculating that if you had requested a buyout 2 years ago, it would have said the same thing.
Chase (Mazda, JLR, and Subaru) all allowed third-party sales at first-party buyout. This is the first I’ve seen that they are restricting it for any of the brands for which they are captive.
They allowed third-party dealer sales or third-party private party sales?
The language here seems to be limiting third-party private party sales… something that no one allows. I’m not convinced this is even a new restriction as much as someone noticing it while looking through the lens of the current restrictions on third-party dealer sales.
