Good evening,
I have a question. Im currently leasing a honda crv with a year left on the lease. I went to the honda dealer becasue they just got an used willys 4xe with 49k miles for 28k. They told me they can take my honda back and take care of the remaining balance. When looking at the estimate i see that they are taking the crv as a trade in and not charging me taxes. Does it look legit or it is a mistake.
when you trade in a car you save on the sales tax, so this is accurate. do you drive alot of miles?
You likely have equity in your Honda and you’re getting hosed. Get multiple other quotes for it. Also what in the world is possessing you to want to buy this? Sell your Honda and go lease one.
Keep the Honda. Come back here again in 11 months before you do something.
My wife wants a wrangler. So do you think is a bad deal?
I drive about 10-12k a year
My current lease payment is $450. The dealer told me i can finance the wrangler for $500 a month for 72 months with $0 down. Do you think is a bad deal?
72 months for a 4xe that already has 49k miles on it??? INSANE
So did my wife. Til she drove one. Has your wife driven one? It’s not a luxury vehicle and quite cramped inside. I wouldn’t do the trade. I’d look into selling your Honda (you probably have equity) and looking to lease a 4xe if that’s the play you want to make.
Hi there, just my 2 cents here and sorry for the long post but hopefully you find it helpful.
Get your buyout/dealer payoff from Honda Financial or whichever bank your lease is through. You may have equity or at least be able to break even. Carmax can’t buy out leases from Honda, but get an estimate right at Carmax.com just for ballpark figures. Autonation or any Honda dealership can buy out your lease. There are a few other places to sell Honda’s but I would start there. Keep the 2 transactions separate. Shop offers to buyout your lease.
You don’t own the Honda so you can’t get any tax benefits from “trading” it in, all you will get is either negative equity rolled into your new deal, or a positive equity check. It’s best to keep the two deals separate so it’s easier to keep track of the monkey math and games the dealer will try to play on you.
I would definitely recommend 100% AGAINST buying a Wrangler 4xE, especially a used one with already 49k miles on it. It is out of warranty except for the battery warranty. I also don’t see a trim on the one you are being quoted for? Or the interest rate of the loan?
My suggestion is to look into leasing a new 4xE on a 24 month term. There are 2024s available, but they are getting harder to find. There is about $15,600 in Stellantis lease incentives ($1000 more if you get a TDM code, and an additional $500 if you are a first responder, and even more discount if you work for one of Jeep’s affiliates/suppliers) All of this is BEFORE dealer discount.
If you are looking for a base 4xE sport, you can get one under $300 with just first month due at signing, (although it may cost more in NY as you tagged, I think you are taxed on the whole purchase price of the vehicle or something like that). You may have to cast a wide net and be prepared for dealers to offer no dealer discount and claim the $15,600+ in incentives IS the dealer discount. Shoot for at least 8% off msrp. 9/10 dealers will come back with insane quotes, just say thank you next. Also, the mf to interest rate equivalent on the 4xE across the board is less than 1%. Good luck!
Are you OK with driving that many miles in such a noisy interior?
Just curious
Yes. Sorry if a lot of our responses come across as a little harsh but the intent is to get you to take a step back and think this through. Dealer is getting you to think payment not total cost of ownership. If your wife drives one and still wants one then just go lease a new one.
You want an out of warranty Jeep Product? INSANE!
OP, I’m begging you. Don’t do this bro. If you really wanna jeep, just lease one
If you’re set on a 4XE lease, do not buy it. I have one and it’s the worst car I have ever leased. Clunky, unreliable, shitty when not charged, and definitely poorly built. Buying a used one out of warranty is insane.
Jeep isn’t know to be reliable and as someone who likes them and had many I can strongly say stay away from a 4XE. My 07 LX470 has 270k miles. It has been in the shop less than my 23 4XE over the past 2 years. If you’re set on a Jeep find one with a normal gas engine. 2.0T has been pretty reliable actually just not in the 4XE.
We had multiple 4xes. I personally think they are great cars but these cars are meant to be leased. Don’t buy a used one. Where did this instant Wrangler love came from? Can she keep her CR-V for another year?
Also make sure she drives one before. Not everyone loves to drive a Wrangler. It’s a much different experience than driving a CR-V.
I loved my 4xE but for the love of god please do not purchase one. They are not reliable. if you must have a Jeep, get the ICE variant.
these are love or hate vehicles. they ride rough, are loud, and handle like crap. that makes them fun but also fatiguing if you aren’t into it
Here is the way to look at your trade…they are giving you 27500 for it…you owe 28300 on it…so negative by 800…BUT, if your state gives you tax credit on trade at rate of 10% (to make it easy math) that means you are saving 2750 with it minus the 800…making your effective trade worth 29450…so compare this value to CarMax, etc.
Hi cdtdiaz,
Admittedly I am unfamiliar with NY leases for plug in hybrids but PLEASE consider leasing a brand new one instead of buying this aged 50k mileage Willys 4xe.
We have a 2023 Wrangler Sahara 4xe lease and the luster has completely worn off. Recall after recall. Jeep service centers are absolutely ass.
I love how the car looks 100%… but the 4 cylinder turbo is rough. Car is loud. EV range tanked.
