The Ohio dealer being mentioned is near where I live, and they intentionally put misleading pricing on their listings to make them more appealing. For example, incorporating the Federal EV incentive, the Costco discount, other incentives that most people won’t qualify for (military/educator/nurse/etc.), and even a $3K trade bonus into the “dealer discount” price.
I started talking to them about an Equinox EV due to some crazy pricing they listed, but it was clear right away that it was too good to be true.
Yes, it was a true discount. Rebate is baked into residual.
I don’t argue that. I have talked to a few like that. But I also was able to find this particular deal very easily so it doesnt feel lucky to be honest
The Chevrolet Digital Retailing tool won’t factor rate markup or dealer add-ons which is where you’ll run into a lot of the “car is sold” or “we can’t honor that price”. Many dealers advertise a discount back of triple-net banking on getting that profit back to make the deal work as a whole. Useful tool for finding the largest advertised discounts but it’ll still be a chore finding someone that will actually take the deal advertised. A great example of this is Quality Chevrolet in SD, they advertise a $4-5k discount on EV’s but have a $4,000 accessory package that they will not remove.
Can be a useful tool but still requires some legwork.
This is what I was trying to show. It was very useful for me and cut a lot of searching at each individual dealership as to what they have. Yes, I’ve hit duds with some dealerships, but they were also quickly ruled out and didn’t waste hours of my time on back and forth.
And after requesting the call, the salesperson said it can not be leased due to hail damage, and that’s why it has such a low price. Was it true? I don’t know. But it was a 4-minute call, and I moved on instead of wasting more of my time.
An intersting development for those seeking cheap lease. Another dealership that I originally contacted thought the portal came back. Originally they had only one loaner with very high discount but when we talked it was sold and being delivered. So yesterday they came back asking for business and I told them straigh up I already put a deposit on a car at another dealership in the area. They asked for the quote and said they will try to bead it. I told them sure, try but for $200 difference don’t bother. They came back with $700 lower quote. That was a predicament now. So I said honestly to the new dealership, I have to tell about this to the one I’m working with and I will have to present them this quote and if they match I will stay. If they won’t I till take my deposit and take your came. The original dealership matched new quote without a problem.
I asked sales person of the new dealership if they want another taker for that cart and he was reluctant to sell to anyone at that quote.
On the other hand below is the screenshot if you need to show it where you are shopping to get good deal since dealerships always want to see “Other” quotes.
I guess the ease of finding it. Within a 100-mile radius of me, I see only 27 RS, and only 4 of them are land-based. There are 5 times more LTs and 27 loaners among them. In my opinion, there is a significantly higher chance of securing a deal with a product that has a higher inventory.
I was thinking of going out of the area, but it was very easy to get these numbers that are acceptable to me close to home, so I decided to save my time on looking for a better deal further out.
This 101K sticker Hummer EV lease looks intriguing too. Just wait until you would get the property tax bill from our fair city that is now based on the car’s MSRP rather than it’s NADA or KBB value.
That’s one of the things somewhat stopping me from trying to hack it. My Arya and ID4 had property tax bills around $700 this year. Hummer might be 2x of that. But adding it to insurance wasn’t a big deal. That was interesting.
Very nicely detailed write up BTW. Thank-you, My eyes started to water when I got the tax bill from the 4xe Wrangler I had. Honestly it is one of the things that has prevented me from looking at any cheap leases on any of these EVs. That Blazer is sharp looking. I saw a Blue SilvErado RST on my way into work this AM. That was really nice looking.
Thank you for the time and information you took to explain this. I actually live within 15-30 minutes of multiple of these OH dealerships (Akron area) and won’t waste my time with the top result on Chevys website while looking for a Blazer/Equinox deal.
I may have missed it but outside all rebates and incentives, did you get OTD price down? Meaning I try and get price as low as can prior to rebates then throw in rebates and discounts
In a way I wasn’t negotiating but sending them back what they posted on chevy website inventory.
The top part in the online shopping is supposely dealership price before rebates because chevy online buying system then adds rebatres you can be qualified for.
Some (may be many) dealership playing games by submitting online price inclusive of all rebates to appear on the top when you sort “Price low to high”. Then when they call you, they backtrack in various way saying that dealership price isn’t real. Which doesn’t bother as I know many of they still trying to play the switch games. But this helped to discart them faster and fine the ones who honored the price they submitted online.
