I’ve been thinking of a jet boat and I like the AR 220. The 190 is too small I think. I’ve heard good and bad about jet boats. Bad is loud and things can get sucked in. Plus no neutral. What’s been your experience?
I’ve done very well buying and selling new bowriders. In the $15K to $25K price range, they really don’t deprecate much, over the first few years, and with the right financing the carrying costs are pretty low. I’ve found it much harder to sell an older boat, out of warranty with limited part availability, especially where the manufacturer is out of business.
Don’t agree with this at all. The construction of hulls and propulsion systems is constantly improving. Especially the electrical systems and things like navigation and autopilot.
The used market is flooded with Covid regret boats right now it seems. The prices I see from just a year or 2 ago are substantially lower and tons of inventory. I was thinking of buying one to make it my part time office for tax deductions but my accountant said that’s a huge red flag
. I guess I’m not the first one that thought of that idea.
I’ve been kicking the tires on both the Freedom Boat Club and Carefree Boat Club, but haven’t progressed past the curiosity stage yet.
I live walking distance to a marina, but the two clubs operate out of a marina I’d have to drive to, which has been just enough resistance for me to not pull the trigger.
If either operated out of the marina across the street, I’d probably bite.
Curious if anyone has ever used either service.
The majority of reviews I’ve seen say there’s not enough supply of boats to meet the demand. You have to book weeks in advance and things like that. If you’re looking for an every now and then boat day, I guess it would work. But I’m more of a hey it’s a nice day, let’s go out on the boat type of person. And that wouldn’t work from everything I’ve read.
Yeah, that’s a fear.
I’m definitely in the “it’s a nice day, let’s go out on the boat” category, which is also why I don’t want to buy a boat, because there aren’t enough days where I feel like that to justify owning the anchor!

Just wait for the next Bezos divorce.
I looked into Freedom Boat Club a couple of years ago, and the monthly fee wasn’t bad but the initiation fee was. The draw was that I could use any other FBC in addition to my home club. We lived in Atlanta and went to the Alabama Gulf Coast regularly, and there were a few different FBC Marinas there.
This is from a couple of years ago:
