Mmmm I don’t know if it would stay comfortable for a CUV at that size though.
If it’s anything like the Alpina XB7, it would be interesting. Big engine in a big cuv might make for a good family hauler, and drag strip puller. But it still sounds insane.
It would compete against the sq8/rsq8, not sure what the counterpart would be on mb’s side. I think the market is limited for the q8/x8 but by all means create bootleg versions of the urus.
There are too many models and they are all wayyy too similar (especially the interiors). What’s next, X9, X10, X11, etc?
There isn’t one, AFAIK.
If BMW thinks it can turn a profit, it would make those… Which is why I’m kind of doubtful of the X8 at all. This is the first time I’ve heard of one (I’m also on a car spy shots/rumors forum), and, if the car was supposed to be debut for 2021, there should’ve been some pics of mules and prototypes (the Germans are not particularly good at hiding their cars, unlike the Japanese). And if there will only be an M version and a bespoke platform, I can’t imagine what the starting price for this would be. The i3 and i8 were not exactly resounding successes, so I don’t know if BMW is very eager to create a brand-new platform for what would be a very low-volume model…
I want whatever those bloggers are smoking
Bespoke platform? Built from the ground up by the M division? GTFO
Do these people have any idea how much it costs to build a new car from the ground up on its own platform?
Those wheels are massive but the front end, like on many of the new BMWs, is hideous.
It’s basically the car equivalent of an answer to a question nobody asked. But then again, leave it to BMW to make some coupe monstrosity version of the X7 and call it the X8.
BMW seems to do this dance every few years. The model line ups expand, often in ways that have no obvious logic, then a few years later they contract and low sellers get the axe.
I have no idea who this is for.
I have no idea what the logic is behind making an M version of something so big.
- you can’t take a CUV to the track/autocross
- Is it really that much fun to jackrabbit start to the next light?
- How many people take their CUV to the drag strip?
To me, this is more of a compensation factor for one’s little, um, manhood than anything else.
