BMW X5 Long Build Time

Am getting a quote in Nor Cal for a new build on a ‘21 X5 45e of 15 weeks! Searching the forum, consensus is that 6-8 is normal. The build slot they have allocated is Nov. 9th and the salesperson says it’s 6-8 from that date.

Does that sound right? It can’t take that long to build the car and ship it, or?
Do these slots vary greatly among dealers?

I dont know if you’ve heard but there is this thing called covid that shut down a lot of stuff.

Thanks for capturing the obvious! If it were just COVID related, all dealers would quote the same timeframe. That’s not what I’ve been reading, hence the question to the community. I am trying to determine if it is just this one dealer’s limited allocation or if it’s systemic. I would welcome any actual information you can share.

Have you personally talked to multiple dealers on time slots…or just generally reading internet “consensus”

Just looked at forums for now. Am hearing back from three more dealers, hopefully very soon. Since I am in the middle of a negotiation with this specific dealer, I was hoping others may have recent data to share.

4-6 weeks on average on the east coast

Looks like a lot of Nov build slots and very few Oct ones

Just curious about 45e build

Does x5 45e offer heated and cooling cup holder option?

This is the same as what I told OP originally. It’s just about figuring out delivery to California. I’m pretty sure we have slots open for delivery in 3-5 weeks because some are about to go into production.

I don’t think that’s available. Also can’t get the crystal shifter. Eco and luxury don’t mix, apparently,

Was considering a 45e but dealer had no allocations and decided against it for other reasons.

They had a plenty of 40i allocations, and I had a production number the same day I submitted my build and gave a deposit. That was exactly two weeks ago, it entered production a couple days later. Production is supposed to be complete in 2 days according to the Genius 800#. About 2.5 weeks from start to finish. The rest will be transport and prep.

There are not a lot of 45e allocations available and most dealers have filled their allocations. I know my dealer’s allocations are sold out through November.

They are typically in production for 1-2 weeks and then probably another 1-2 weeks for shipping. Your salesperson is probably following the “under promise, over delivery” philosophy. If it gets there sooner, great. If not, then you are not upset and calling him asking where it is.
