BMW x5 lease buyout question

Hi,

I currently lease 2021 BMW x5 that I want to buy it out at the end of the lease (3 months left).

When I go to BMW FS, it says that RV is not negotiable. However, some say I can negotiate buyout price with a dealer.

This is my first time buying out a leased vehicle and I’m a bit confused even after searching this forum.

  1. Can you negotiate buyout price?
  2. If the answer to #1 is yes, how can a dealer negotiate price when BMWFS doesn’t?
  3. What’s the best strategy? 2024 BMW x5 has 52 RV and mine is 55. Should I ask to lower mine to 52%?

Sorry for newbie questions.

RV is not negotiable. I am confident you have positive equity in the SUV.

Sorry if I’m repeating the same question.

So…that means the buyout price is not negotiable?

Is this a recent change? I see some people over BMW forum talking about negotiation from old posts.

Example: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=198880 and https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showpost.php?s=6404bf552abd274b699cdb8af99cbf1c&p=24990881&postcount=44

In the good old days of leasing and inflated RV’s (pre-2020) we did see a few cases where BMWFS would offer a lower buyout than the RV. IIRC this was not something you could negotiate, but rather an offer that would appear in your account at BMWFS online usually in the last 3-6 mos. of your lease. Take it or leave it.

For obvious reasons I’m not aware of this happening at all since then.

So to answer your question, yes, at the current time your buyout price (RV) is non negotiable.

Thank you! I searched further and it sounds like there was even a policy change preventing dealers from offering lower buyout prices.
