I know the RAV/Toyota will have a better resale value long term, but honestly a RAV4? You’re gonna hate that thing . It’s the epitome of a transportation appliance.
Go with the new X1. Updated tech, much better driving and much better looking. Free service for 2yrs, free loaners. Plus you can brag to your douche bag friends that you have a “beemer”.
The small money you save (long term) with the Toyota is not worth it. Plus the pleather is much easier to clean over cloth seats with kids. Ask me how I know.
BMW does a good job at making their cheaper interiors look premium. You get the same infotainment as higher end models. The layout is pretty similar. You’re just getting lower quality fabrics and finishes.
Their leatherette looks almost like real leather. I was the type of person who would never choose imitation leather if building a car, but after having leatherette in my current 5 series, I don’t mind it at all.
I can confirm it’s easy to clean.
How is this even a contest based on the things you care about (and not what the internet cares about)?
As if resale and reliability wasn’t enough of a slam dunk, looking at all the missing tech/safety features in the X1 should have shut this down in your mind at inception.
Does the 2023 have missing safety features? The previous gen X1’s platform couldn’t support some of the modern assistance systems, but I assume there is no such issue in the X1.
OP, how long do you think you will keep the car for? I don’t know how accurate the charts you linked are, but even they should the Toyota has stronger resale value but only after year 5.
I would normally expect a brand-new model from nearly any manufacturer to have some bugs in the first yr…
Separate and apart from what the OP may want, I actually think the new X1 seems pretty compelling. Hope that great lease deals come back to that car (b/c I’d prob seriously consider one in a few yrs).
I never own a Toyota before so I’m not as confident about the car as a BMW, which I’ve leased 4 times in the past. I also hate how they don’t allow you to custom order so you are at the mercy of what dealers offer to you, which especially tough in this market.
I typically keep a car 2-4yrs but with the recent economic down turn, there might be a chance that I keep the car longer than that if my finance gets worse.
It’s just a new brand to me so there is that. Btw, how is their ToyotaCare. Do they offer free loaners? Do they require you get your service done at the dealership your purchase from?
Sounds like the opinions are polarized here and I’m just more confused
For those who have driven both cars or both brands, are there any specific aspects (reliability, highway noise, dealership services, convenience features, safe features, etc) that you like/dislike from either side?
