BMW website build lease

Hello, I’m debating on leasing a BMW and I heard from someone that you can build your car on the BMW website, print out the customization and then negotiate with a dealer.

For those have done this, is this true? Is it relatively challenging to negotiate with this vs negotiating cars already on their lot? Is there a chance that the dealer will go back on whatever we decide on while the car is being made and/or when it arrives? Can I go to any dealership to negotiate??

Thank you and sorry for all the questions
Have a good Friday!!

It is true but you seem clueless. Hiring a broker would save you a lot of time. Don’t go to a dealership. Negotiate online.

Hmm no not clueless… just unsure about the process of building a car online and then negotiating that custom build. I’ve negotiated probably 5 leases so far and have done my research on it. I also never go to a dealership I only ever speak to someone through email.

Yes, you can negotiate a custom build just like a car sitting on the showroom. It’s not an urban legend. It is a real thing.

Which model/trim and what’s your target?

No.

I’ve ordered many BMWs. You can negotiate the discount % and ensure the MF isn’t marked up but you can’t finalize the terms as residual, incentives and programs are month to month.

Not sure yet, want something that looks sporty so probably will lean more towards the M series. So perhaps a M235i, M240i coupe, or M340i.

My friend did say that as long as I build a car that doesn’t have “obscure” stuff to it then a dealer wouldn’t be too hard to haggle with.

As far as a target, I’m guessing you mean my price range ? I have until feb/march of next year so just looking around right now, but I just want to do some research before I start narrowing down.

what do you mean by “can’t finalize the terms as residual, incentives and programs are month to month.”?

Do you mean I wont know the RV, incentives and such UNTIL the car arrives on the lot? Then they can calculate the necessary things?

I believe it’s still 60 days lock in and 90 with exception but incentives are month to month. This may have changed as it been 3 years since I last ordered.

Right, I believe MF changes monthly too? I can’t remember.

Ok so what’s your target if you took delivery with the RV/MF/rebates being the same as today’s?

You are looking at probably $800 a month or so on the 340i. Maybe a little less on the 240i since it is a much lower volume model. I don’t think they make a new 235i, unless it is new for 2025.

Not sure. I’m just doing my preliminary research on some things before I even want to go and test drive. I have until feb/march (forget which month lol).

Friend said they I can get a decent % off selling price. Not sure if true because I haven’t done anything yet.

Wasn’t really asking about price and I’m not sure where you got those numbers… seems pretty outrageous lol but thanks I guess

Just trying to prepare you for sticker shock when you are ready. You picked two vehicles that don’t lease very well as they typically are not heavily discounted.

If you think those numbers are outrageous then you have no idea what you’re doing and really need a broker

The discount the dealer offers you has nothing to do with the spec you pick. No one is going to be like “ ya that oyster interior looks garbage so we will only give you 4% off” (even tho oyster in general does look garbage )

There will be a discount for an order on each model. You can then spec it however you want at that discount.

Lots of Meme Lounge material here already.

lol ya I dont know what I’m doing you’re right.

Appreciate all the “helpful” comments thus far relating to something I didn’t ask about.

M and M-lite cars are low-volume, low-allocation vehicles in the bmw stable, unlike the more mass market “regular” vehicles. And they don’t lease well at all. more about paying to play.

When you “order” a vehicle, the dealer is giving up one of their (scarce) slots to you, for your order. Just want to set expectations. Good luck in your hunt.

Thank you I appreciate the info/heads up on this. I figured leasing a bmw wouldn’t be an issue since I would always see people getting deals on them (never really paid attention to the models and was clueless on what the models meant since I always thought bmw’s looked ugly lol). But I guess it makes sense since the m-lite are the sporty type that most people want.

I’ll def keep this in mind. Also kinda interesting in the hyundai elantra N. From a very quick glance it looks kinda low volume on that car too but perhaps they’re still waiting for more 2025.
