Isn’t Ultimate Care Plus supposed to be like $700? It extends coverage to the brakes/wipers/rotors for 3 yr/36k miles.
Easily worth the money because OEM brakes/rotors per axle are $1k.

Most of it is not bullshit and has value to some people. Tire and wheel is worth it with low profile tires and there are people who completely trash their lease, so excess wear and tear is a deal for them. Then there are people who just like the convenience of not having to worry. Pop a tire, just drop off your car and get a new tire worry free. Missing some paint after someone scrapped your car in a parking lot, don’t have to fix it. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it is bullshit and luckily a lot of dealers are moving away from the true bullshit stuff (VIN etching, nitrogen).
The regular maintenance can be refreshed as well with your service advisor. Cost is $100 but they may markup a bit like maybe $50 or $100 more. Still a good deal for the person assuming the lease.
That is a fantastic option Mani. I’ve tried that a number of times on cars I have swapped into, my local dealer would never do it. They said it was something like $700 or something ridiculous :-(.
Doesn’t Ultimate Care already cover maintenance at no charge? They’re trying to charge you $31.22/month for something you already have?
I’d have a hard time not just walking away at that point.
It is bullshit. There is a reason F&I is the main profit center for dealers. The markup on all the products is obscene.
How many leases have low profile tires? People that completely destroy their cars shouldn’t be leasing. You use two extreme examples to make a case that these products aren’t bullshit. I’m not saying they are a scam as in you don’t get the product you are paying for, I am saying for a vast majority of people F&I products are a huge waste of money.
I picked two examples that are very common issues I see on the dealer side. An extreme example is the person who tried returning a lease with the bumper hanging off and missing the headlight housing (true story). A normal example is someone who returns a lease with some curb rash, a small scrape on a bumper, and a ding or two (especially true if they live in the city). I also see a lot of leases with low profile tires in the luxury/high line world. And you are always free to negotiate the price.
Also, read the fine print of any of these products they try to sell you. I’ve seen wear and tear protection packages for 5k that limit one claim to 1k (Hyundai). Any damage from one incident that goes over 1k is not covered. It wasn’t a blanket 5k in total wear and tear.
Becaue they try to sell you the plus program
the fine print always has a sketch I agree but honestly, i have seen a lot of people trash amg and M wheels and someover regular wheels due to curb rash.
The tire and wheel stuff I definitely agree some people should get them. I generally am paranoid since I have some pricey wheels that are discontinued. 3 years so far without curbing them, and I have fat sidewalls so damaging them from pot holes is not an issue.
Pads and wipers are way cheaper than UC+
Who needs rotors in a lease?
Also includes batteries I believe. Still, not necessarily a good deal unless you can get UC+ inexpensively.
BMW recommends pads and rotors be changed at the same time.
Been there, done that. Not worth trying to cut corners.
Unfortunately my parents 530e did At something like 5000 miles :-(. The heavy shuddering under breaking was horrendous.
Yeah, it’s pretty common to go through a set of rotors/pads on a BMW within the first 36k miles, especially the crossovers.
That’s a manufacturing defect and should have been covered under warranty
Yeah, I really like BMWs, but brakes/tires/rotors can be a little bit pitiful. That’s another reason I really really try to stay with a 24 month lease. In the past, this has been financially advantageous all around, but a lot of the deals lately are trending towards 36.
I agree, but the dealer did not take that position until they were reminded that the car had UC+ coverage and that ended the conversation.
Nobody cares what BMW recommends… only what’s required.
Nobody needs to change rotors when changing pads, unless the rotors are specifically in need of being replaced.
