Hello everyone
While doing a 36/12k lease on a 330i loaner this weekend I was told by the dealer that if I service the car anywhere besides a BMW dealer at the end of the lease they will do a “key read” and charge me a fee for not servicing at a BMW dealership. I’ve never heard of this before. Could someone shed some light on the validity of that claim? I know due to Magnuson moss they can’t void the warranty if I service at another mechanic, but can they fine me? They also claimed I’d need a full brake job twice during my lease which I know is not right. Could someone shed some like on what mileage I should expect out of my brakes?
For routine service, I believe they can charge you for not performing it with them since it’s included free. Why wouldn’t you take it to the dealer?
That’s BS… maybe if you’re taking your car to the track and beating the crap out of it… but super unlikely you’ll need it twice… once maybe… these scare tactics suck.
Edit: unless it’s specified in the maintenance/warranty manual it’s required… best look at what your documentation says. But this is a 330 not a 911
the wife was on a BMW 330 xi kick for a while , so have leased at least 5 of them in a raw dating back to like 2007
12k/36 months lease terms . Never replaced brakes and usually end up with couple of thousand miles over allowed
service was done at BMW dealership because it has always been included for free
Isn’t maintenance included, why would you go to another shop?
- Go to BMW dealership
- Have them do all the free/included maintenance
- Decline everything else unless it’s actually needed and reasonably priced.
- Problem solved.
Exactly, I knew finance would be pushy but didn’t expect this level.
Thank you everyone for all the info. Can always count on LH.
What if I assumed a lease? Maintenance plan is not transferable. I have been bringing to an indy.
