I think that is spockvr6’s point. BMW has “underrated” the horsepower.
I get that. I know what his point is. I read his post about the Supra having been dyno’d by the same shop as 335 at the crank and then 339 at the wheel.
If he was making the manufacturer comparison of 335 at the crank compared to the shop’s dyno of 339 at the wheel, then that makes sense.
Also, no two dynographs are alike when it comes to third party tuner shops. It’s usually helpful to dyno a vehicle on multiple types of dynos and take the average numbers, unless the numbers are consistent. A single dyno graph only tells you so much.
That M5 output is crazy! We are living in great automotive times when a heavy barge of a four-door family sedan can turn sub 11 second quarter miles.
This is true Stinger. I’m certainly not an expert, but I have made hundreds of dyno runs for various cars and it is definitely best to use the same dyno to determine the deltas if possible. There are also significant differences between the type of dynamometers used. The trend with many BMWs though is definitely that they consistently show a greater output than expected no matter the dynamometer type.
I test drove the M340 and now I am in search of one.
I have a f30 340, I pay 390 a month, I need a reputable source to give me a 0 to 60 and how it handles to see if I want to pay double that monthly.
I haven’t yet driven the M340 yet either, but there is zero chance it will be worth twice the money.
Just put a Juicebox on the 340i and for $199 youve got M340i acceleration😁
You run into a problem with these cars, using the actual power (not on a track) outside of Germany or similarly structured traffic law/really lax enforcement localities.
You can’t really do it on the open road because a) other drivers, b) potential fines and penalties.
I gotta admit it’s nice ripping off a sub 5 second 0 to 60 run off a stop light without chirping a tire or doing anything illegal Other than going 5 mph over the speed limit.
Where are you driving that roads with traffic lights are 55 mph speed zones? Haha
I’m sure they exist, but they’re not really in my area.
Service/Feeder roads?
Rural areas with nothing for miles and then a giant strip mall…then nothing for miles again. There’s some up here in the north east in little podunk towns.
Edit should have replied to Mp.
Nope I’m in Virginia outside of dc. The road is not a limited access highway and the speed limit is 55 with traffic lights. I should say for now at least since the dolts around me typically will go 45 to 50. It’s only a matter of time till it’s lowered.
