Hello! I am starting to search for a used bmw m2 competition and was wondering if anyone has access to recent auction prices of these cars. I have contacted some dealers with these cars but they are pretty firm on their prices. My end goal is to be out the door for 50k or under. Is this possible? Thanks for your help and or suggestions!
Manheim does not have the Comp trim explicitly listed.

Thank you so much! So the competition trim is any car from the model year 2019 and up. Are there any specific breakdowns for cars for 2019 and 2020?
Thanks! I was also curious.
Not alot of sales, even nationwide, for 2019 and 2020 because most BMW leases are 3 years so most auction inventory starts in 2018. These cars can have some kind of issues – because owner’s are not keeping them for 3 years for a reason.

Auction prices have nothing to do with the retail market value of the car. If one dealer pays $30k and another pays $40k and the retail market is $35k, you are not going to pay the dealer $40k since that is what they bought it for. Plus you have to factor in reconditioning, marketing, CPO, shipping, auction fee, and other costs. You are setting yourself up for failure by going down this path.
Most M2s are not leased since the programs are terrible. And saying they have problems is not a fair statement. There is a condition report next to them plus clients who have money to spend on sports cars like to get in and out of new models. When I worked for BMW, we have someone trade in a Porsche GT3 for a M2 Comp because he gets bored of cars after a year.
I agree, these performance cars often hold their value really well. People enjoy driving them for a little while and trading them while they can get out for a price close to MSRP.
You’re not wrong. When I bought my used M2 the dealer told me that everyone thought they were getting a bargain on a sportier M4, but in reality the M2 is more hardcore, louder and rougher. Being that these are monied clients buying toys, many traded back in to dealer for something more civilized.
For the record, I loved my M2’s performance. Its a beast and more exciting than my former base Cayman & 911. That said, I too sold it because as a daily it was just too harsh, loud and uncomfortable with quite possibly the worst “premium” sound system I’d heard.
That’s insane. Makes me regret not getting the carmax m2 comp carmax had for 49.5k a few months ago.
Were you able to find one for under 50k?
Still on the hunt for the right car but for a clean example from a dealer you should be aiming for about 56k or more
Aren’t NEW ones 60k? What’s the point on saving a couple grand on a car someone definitely thrashed for a year or two?
New CS are running around 80 and some are even marked up. Comps run around there yeah.
The CSs are a special type of unicorn for a very specific buyer. The difference between the 2018/19s Comps and the 2021 Comps is pretty minimal, no?
Well to be honest its about a 10 grand difference. Most cars can be brought down to a 52kish sales price for an out the door cost of 55-56k. A new car is at a sales price of 58-60k at the least and youre looking at 65-66ish out the door depending on your states tax.
There are some brokers on here offering 7% discounts on M2s, so it’s really not even that. For 3-4K I’d much rather know that I’m the only one who has ever farted in the drivers seat or gone sideways on a track.
I go off MMR, that’s the best baseline.
Agree to disagree? I’m okay with some farts, but not tracking. If I’m going to put my car through that I’m doing it.
What I’m saying is that 60k-7% discount+ incentives/OL puts you back at 60k out the door. Buying the exact same vehicle as a 2018 56k out the the door example would not make sense to me because I’d rather pay the 4K difference in order to have a longer warranty and the peace of mind that nobody could have driven it on the track or thrashed it on the street. If 2-3 year old examples were going for 45k out the door, I would definitely go the CPO route.
Oh absolutely. But I was saying, I don’t mind a demo or loaner car, versus a used tracked car.
AFAIK, there are no incentives on the M2 comp. If anyone knows different please let me know.
