BMW Lease Transfer - Open Recall?

Greetings!

I’m getting conflicting reports on BMW’s willingness to do lease transfers if the vehicle is impacted by an open recall. My X5 is impacted by the integrated brake recall. Despite asking a number of different times over the last few months this hasn’t been fixed by the dealer…or so I’m told.

Does anyone have experience transferring a BMW impacted by a recall, or any firm data on this topic? I’ve done a number of BMW transfers and just dont want to waste peoples (or my own) time if this isn’t going to work.

Thanks in advance!

The only report that matters is BMWFS. What did they tell you regarding your ability to transfer a lease on a vehicle with an open recall?

BMWFS will allow a transfer to begin without an issue I’ve confirmed that with my VIN. BUT…I’m concerned about this being flagged at some point throughout the process and it stalling it for both sides. Which is why I asked my original question.

Did you actually speak to someone at BMWFS or did you just enter the VIN to see if you could start the process? If not, I would call them and ask if you’re concerned.

BMW FS usually won’t even allow a lease transfer to begin if it’s affected by an open recall and the car has not yet been fixed. Check here to see if it’s actually showing an open recall for your VIN:

If it’s not, then that might be why BMW FS is allowing the transfer to start. If it does show up there as having an open recall, I would double check with BMW FS and ask if the car is indeed eligible for a lease transfer notwithstanding the open recall on the car.

If there is no recall on it now, I would push for the transfer ASAP if you think once will come. I know a few owners are stuck with their cars cause of this. BMWNA might be able to help out with some compensation if they are willing to.

Thanks again for the feedback. I’ll report back to this thread on how this progresses.
