BMW Lease - does mfr warranty still apply if you're over miles? [DC Metro]

, , ,

So I leased a 2025 X7 40i about 9 months ago. Love the car, just with RTO I am probably going to be over miles a bit. I’m driving ~20k/year with a 36 month/15k lease term.

If I just prepay the additional miles now, does the powertrain warranty also extend? Or what happens in the edge case that the engine explodes at 50,001 miles right outside of warranty?

Any BMW-specific advice would be great. Thank you!

You pay for the engine. Transfer the lease and get another one.

Manufacturer’s warranty of 4yr/50k still stays true. So you’ll either need to purchase an extended warranty, swap out as suggested, or roll the dice.

pre-paying the lease mileage is paying for usage/depreciation, not for maintenance and warranty.

That’s not a vehicle I’d want to pay for a set of brakes and tires

Or get a cheap EV lease (while they last) to split the miles, maintenance and gas/tires/brakes consumption burden

Hmm

How cheap is EV lease at the current market?

Guessing

$200/m plus $200/m insurance?

I think the extended warranty costs less.
