BMW iX - All Electric SUV Discussion

Do you share one vehicle?

If no, have considered just each choosing your own cars?

This works really well for us.

If we had to compromise, we’d both hate every vehicle we get.

I guess it’s more of a psychology issue. Like her point is. “Is this really worth 100k?”…probably close to 65k. She doesn’t see the value vs the Model Y which costs less.

Have you driven both of them? You can argue that the IX is not worth $100K but it’s certainly a step above a Model Y. My wife had been in Model 3s and Model Ys for 4 years and once she drove the IX she was done with that.

And does a Model Y actually cost less? Leasing a well-equipped Model Y is about the same payment as an IX. And purchasing a Model Y, well many of us have taken a nice haircut doing that. My effective TCO was $1500/mo.

The MSRP is not a great way to judge the price.

At $700 ish per month it starts to look much more compelling

So we usually buy our cars and haven’t leased it. The only reason I was looking at a lease was due to the savings they were offering.

Then i wouldn’t bother with the iX. There’s just no justification for the premium of buying one when compared to the $55k MSRP segment.

Only reason to look at one is if you feel the lease payment is reasonable and worth the premium over leasing a mainstream model.

And like other non-domestic EVs, you can get better incentives/rebates via leasing vs buy?

I understand that part, but ask her to try logic and math instead.

You really aren’t deciding whether to spend $100,000 or even $65,000.

To me the sticker price (or even the sale price by itself) is a meaningless number, as all that matters to me is the total amount of money that’s been sucked out of my bank account over the term of the lease.

Random numbers here, but if I’m looking at a potential effective payment of $1,000 a month for 36 months, the question I ask is, “Is it worth $36,000 to drive this thing for three years?”

And in part the answer will depend on what else I could get with the same $36k.

You can simply do the calculations for your TCO and see which you prefer. As a car, iX is definitely much better than a MY. For an iX you are looking at spending somewhere around $25k for a 3 years lease. If you buy a MY and sell it in 3 years, your TCO would definitely be lower than $25k. If you keep the car longer, let’s say 6 years, your TCO should get even lower.

You can plan how long you intend to keep the car and see if paying higher amount for an iX makes financial sense. Personally, I lean more towards leasing an iX than financing a MY but everyone’s finances are different.

I think this is a fair assessment - funny enough my wife loves the iX much more than the audi etron suv - drive/tech/comfort other than exterior look is much better on the iX

This is exactly where I am at in my head as well. Lease the iX or buy MYP and finance. I know the MYP will put me in a better position but coming from a loaded X5 now, I dont know if I will be happy with the MYP over time. Did a demo drive and took it home overnight and liked it. But didnt love it like I do my X5.

X5 to iX is a much softer landing than X5 to MY.

TBH even X5 to MX is kind of a hard landing.

There is no way you can predict the future value of a Model Y. Do not play that game.

This is where I am too, I think the iX is generally the best value out of all the lux EVs right now unless they dial up the incentives on the EQS even more. It doesn’t make any sense to replace my X5 with an iX right now - iI would just be paying at least TTL on a new vehicle that doesn’t do anything the X5 doesn’t already do, but if I were starting over I would go with the iX.

Looks like December was the month to lock in an iX.

Got a few folks regretting today. :eyes:

For what it’s worth, it was still probably our #1 seller even on the November program, December just made it even crazier, as was a nice surprise for anyone who had a car coincidentally arrive in December.

If BMW gives similar incentives on financing the vehicle(10% plus 7500), it would be an easy decision…

When will January offers will be out for the IX?

Looking like we’re back to the old programs for iX.
