This is the first time I lease car. My car accident in 11/2024. My progressive insurance tell me my car was total lost. I paid the lease every month until now . What i need to do now?
BMW leases automatically come with Gap insurance. I believe what happens is progressive will only pay BMW finance what they think the car is worth not what you actually owe on it. I believe with the gap that comes with the lease, bmw will cover the difference.
I had an accident in November, and I paid the lease in December. Now it’s January, but I haven’t received any notice from them about stopping the lease payments or anything like that. So, am I supposed to keep paying the lease indefinitely? They informed me that my car was a total loss in December.
You’re going to have to keep paying until the insurance company settles with BMWFS
No, but the more proactive you are about it, the more quickly it will be settled.
Light a fire under your insurer’s ass. How tf is a total loss from November still an open case? You should be very dissatisfied to say the least.
I just dropped Progressive. One of the reasons was because they were very slow to process claims. They used to have drive-in claims centers near me, but now they are useless. All they do is take a couple of pictures and send for somebody to estimate remotely. Then when you take it to an actual body shop for repair you get the real numbers a couple of weeks later.
Who is them in this instance? BMWFS?
Who is “they” in this jnstance? The insurance company?
Does BMWFS know you were in an accident and it was totalled? Has your insurance paid BMWFS for the buyout yet?
The accident happened in November. I paid the lease with my own money in November, December, and this month. I used my money to cover the payments. Progressive didn’t pay anything. The only update Progressive gave me is that my car is a total loss.
I would contact Progressive and BMWFS and make sure they are both using a payoff figure based on the date of the accident. If they do, you may be able to get a refund of the payments made after the accident. Just a thought.
You answered none of my questions.
Who is them in this instance? BMWFS? I mean BMWFS.
I saw on the status about progressive insurance company. On the status they said total lost. I didn’t know BMWFS know yet but BMWFS notice me to pay the lease for 1/2025.
If I understand correctly, you never told BMWFS the car was in an accident or totaled. What did you expect them to do if they aren’t aware of anything?
You are going to have to be your own advocate here and drive the communication between BMWFS and progressive. The only person with an incentive to drive this to closure is you.
Time to shop for another car… and it’s likely any $ out of pocket is sunk cost. Depending on who’s at fault in your accident, maybe you’ll be able to recover something (nvm that - just noticed OP stated it’s a hit-n-run).
And you’ll need to quickly determine what the BMWFS payoff amount is vs the insurance payout amount.
It’s in your lease contract that you’re supposed to notify BMWFS if your vehicle is involved in an accident.
As @Jon mentioned, how would BMWFS know that anything happened to the car and why would you not expect your monthly invoice from BMWFS?
Call them tomorrow and let them know!
Do a conference call with insurance and BMWFS on the call
Thank you so much. I understand
It’s not Progressive’s job to make your lease payments.
Good luck…if this actually works out this way, please let us know.
