BMW i3 w/o REX?

I’ve been looking for a 2017 i3 w/ REX and not having luck finding dealers willing to work with me. I’ve located one of the few remaining 2017 i3’s without REX, and was wondering if I should get it? I’m not sure if the RV is the same as one with a REX, but the pricing is a bit lower, and with this being the last week of the month coming up, it being the last week of lease support (most likely), I am hoping to find a good deal. I was wondering if anyone here has the battery only 2017 version, and how they like it? I think the 117 mile range would be fine for getting around town, and we have a mini-van for family trips. Since I’m not actually buying it, I would think it would be fine (since I don’t need to worry about what ranges cars will have in 3 years and how that would affect the value of this car).

Thanks,
Paul

I don’t have one, but would say if the range works for you then go for it. I’ve heard the BEV versions are less problem prone than the REX because there are less parts to go wrong (none of the traditional motor/fuel parts). I know this was a big problem the first year (2014), so I don’t know if they’ve completely resolved it.

I’ve seen very few of these on the east coast so you will experience either one of two things, there are no other BEV only vehicles so there is no opportunity to apply leverage to drive price down or the dealer realized it’s an albatross and will do anything to get rid of it.

If you a) plan to only use the car for getting around town (<50mi one-way trips) and b) can charge your car at home garage every night, I don’t think you would have any problem with BEV.

I’ve been driving my REx for over a year (14k miles) and have only used range-extender less than 5 times when I took 60+mi one-way trips.

Well, if they don’t want to get rid of it, that’s fine. I’m basically only interested in it to get a good EV at a really good price for the next 3 years. Technically, I don’t need a new car for a few months, but if the perfect storm comes together to get me a great deal, I’ll take it.
