BMW End of Lease Protection Plan

Hi all,

Last week I leased a 2 series. I read one or two posts that saying don’t buy any packages recommended by the finance mgr and I decided to skip it. But recently I did some research and found out that usually after 3 years they will replace the tires, which cost ~2k. Now I kind of regret not purchasing the package. I may transfer the lease after 2 years and I’m afraid no one will take the lease without that package… Is it possible if I purchase it now? Is the protection plan worth it? How about the ultimate care package and Wear & Tear package? What’s the fair price for those packages?

Thanks a lot!

In what world do tires cost $2k for a 2 series? You can buy used rfts on ebay for like $80/tire for lease return. Or you can buy non rfts tires now and save the RFTs for lease return.

I can assure you, this would not be a deterrent in getting someone to take over your lease, unless it’s a mediocre to bad lease overall.

These are all expensive insurance policies. For most people, they’re not worth it. Some will say they are for peace of mind. I’ve been leasing cars for over 20 years, never purchased any of these policies, and never would’ve needed them if I did. Therefore, even if I have to pay for something out of pocket now, my pocketbook is still way ahead.

Most people don’t care if there’s extra package or not.

The odds of being able to transfer out of a BMW lease signed last week is approximately 0.00001%. IMO.

@Amy_Yang what are your lease terms?

Lol, that’s a good idea. You’re a genius

That’s a relief. So how do you handle scratches / tires / broken parts?

36mon… I’m not transferring out right now. May need to get out 2 years later

At what due at signing and what monthly payment?

You fix whatever is damaged, or accept the charges from BMWFS per their lease end inspection. Why would you have broken parts on a vehicle that’s fully under warranty?

Before the end of the lease, they will mail you a small scale and tell you what they will charge and which part count as normal wear and tear.
Sometimes you can get away with touch-up paint.
I bought used tires on eBay and put them on before turning the car in, they didn’t say anything, saved me a lot!

They only charge $200 per tire that needs replacing. So unless that has changed, that will be a lot less than paying for any wear package, assuming there isn’t some other serious damage or repairs needed.

If they’re small they don’t matter, if they’re big your insurance covers the repair or you pay much, much, much less out of pocket for the fix.

You can brand new 17” or 18” RFT in 228i GC sizes for sub $100 each including shipping
