Sorry for the noob question but all these years leasing I never actually did a custom order and would appreciate a little memory refresh.
May go the route of the custom build since we will be overpaying anyway compared to past markets so figured may as well get a car to my wife’s liking and I know my dealer may give me a decent discount on a build.
Although still cross shipping and focusing on sedans for more descent monthly pricing I still believe I will get the best MSRP discount with BMW as a repeat customer for the past 10 years. The 330E makes sense as loyalty is 1500$ than the petrol counterpart. I was also offered the same discount % on X3’s as well which is nice but these will be over budget.
I just wanted to know what are the numbers that are locked and those who will apply upon delivery?
Are incentives such as loyalty locked at time of order? If I recall the MF and residuals will be those determined at delivery of vehicle but wanted to know if I am missing anything else.
Also what type of reasonable deposit is usually required can people back off a deal if numbers get really disadvantageous?
Finally for those with custom build experience in the last few months what were your wait times? any drastic delays due to the whole supply chain thing?
With BMW, the programs are locked from the month you place the order. If the programs for the month you take delivery in are better, you can choose to use those program numbers instead. This includes lease credit, MF, RV - things that can be changed month over month by BMW. The lock is 60 days for east coast and 90 days for west coast IIRC.
Depends on the dealership. I’ve done two custom orders in the last 6 months with two dealerships in two different states and neither of them asked for a deposit. Like I said above, programs are locked from the month of order so if the programs get worse for the month you take delivery in, your numbers from when you put the order in still hold up, so nothing disadvantageous here.
Will depend on which model you choose. Looks like you’re inclined towards 330e, which are almost all built at SLP plant in Mexico. Once built, the biggest wait is for a carrier/ship assignment. Once you have a ship things start moving like clockwork. The only caveat here would be a stop sale which might hold up your cat at port for a few days before being sent to the dealer.
Thanks @max_g & @john6866 - yes now I remember having the option last time I considered it. I was told the 3 will be faster than SUV’s right now but what happens if the 60 days pass and car is not delivered?
In any case, may go that route - getting a very decent MSRP discount on current inventory and I hope they can match that on a build.
Thanks again guys!
Another question.
Not seeing any option for ACC or driving assistance pro. I thought that was available on 3 series. Same issue as the HK sound system due to chip shortages?
Thanks
Looks like ACC (not sure if just ACC or the entire DAS package) and potentially lumbar support will be back for new 22 builds according to my dealer. HK is a no go.
They released 2022 330i orders already…too bad lease support may be non-existent.
Cheers.
Do you know if it would be possible to submit a credit app again after the initial approval a couple weeks later just to make sure the rates are locked in by the time the vehicle is delivered on the East Coast?
Also I was thinking about making a thread about this: it seems like BMWFS only did a soft pull for the approval since there’s no inquiry from them on my credit. The dealer said it was approved within ten seconds so maybe they’re lenient with current customers as long as the score is strong enough.
Everything I’ve seen seems to point to the pull being good for 60 days (or 90 in Cali?). Mine was a hard pull early June. Car is at port jersey now, or somewhere between there and the dealer. So with luck, won’t need a second pull.
My thought is since my vehicle finished production today to do another credit application if possible since that would theoretically lock in the rates for another 60 days, which would be enough time since it’s unlikely for transport to take over two months.
Odd they changed it to 60 days on the East Coast since that’s pushing it even for a build that’s just about to enter production. Really just trying to prevent any surprises.
A broker or dealer would be better served to answer the pull q, but my understanding is they wouldn’t do another unless/until the initial 60 days expired, or you went to a different dealer
My deal is locked in based on the initial pull, and I’m pretty sure that will hold through to delivery
As for transport. Depending on where it’s coming from and to, it depends? I was watching some bmw forums and cars were sitting in ports with stop sales due to certain parts still being needed to finish the builds.
Mine got on the boat in Mexico 7/1 (had finished production a week or so prior). Got to NJ on Tuesday. So far as I know, no issues there so it shouldn’t be long now.
Order was placed 6/9 I believe. So just under 2 months, provided I take delivery in the next couple weeks.
What’s odd is that BMWFS didn’t do a hard pull on my credit the first time, although I am a current customer with an admittedly high credit score.
I know they only did a soft pull because I applied for a BMW credit card and I immediately got alerts from multiple sources about a new inquiry from the issuing bank, and still no inquiries from BMWFS. They did do a hard pull on my previous lease though.
