I read today that BMW cancelled the 2018 540d (diesel sedan) after only importing about 100 cars. I see about 70 of them new on dealer lots according to AutoTrader. I wonder if there are some dealers that will agree to a large dealer discount to move them? Anyone know the RV and MF? Perhaps there is a deal here…
I’d love to see some units of this rare car in LH garages.
I asked my dealer in Virginia, she brushed off the idea of any large discount right now. I’m not sure if there is a demand or if BMW is just playing the market.
I highly doubt it, if you’re really looking for a deal need to wait until the last month of lease support. If anything dealers love putting diesels in their loaner fleet.
Updated numbers: 101 units of 2018 model year cars are for sale in the U.S. right now. 14 units of 2019 model year cars are also for sale. That 2019 540d is going to be a rare beast.
The U.S. 540d is similar to the 530d available in the rest of the world.
New 3.0L inline-six (from the new modular B57 engine family)
261 hp
457 lb-ft of torque
0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds while returning 30 mpg combined (26 city / 36 highway)
All-wheel drive and an 8-speed auto
I am sure there will be demand for now “rare” luxury sedan diesel to get them sell. If anything, they will sell with similar incentives to gas versions.
None of the 2019s are at dealers yet. Only 2 of those 14 have finished production, the rest are currently in production. For 2018 they’re pretty much all showing as dealer inventory, 3 are still at port waiting to go to the dealerships, and 3 are marked as demonstrators. So it looks like there are 3 demo cars out there if anyone wants to take a swing.
