I see a lot of general advice about buying new over used given used car prices. My wife wants a 3 or 4 series BMW, and used is fine. 30-35k seems to be the range for a decently equipped 2018-2019 with 30-50k miles. Figure upper end for a CPO. That’s not great but neither is 50k+ for a new one. I’m just wondering if I’m missing something beyond the obvious. New or used would be financed at 48 months or less with a healthy down payment. She’s a very low mileage driver. 5k miles or less annually.
Value points to consider…a new BMW comes with free maintenance, I think it’s 3 years. A 2018 will be out of warranty so you need to decided if you want to pay thousands for an extended warranty or roll the dice on it with no warranty.
Thanks for your reply. I would get a CPO or add an extended warranty at purchase.
CPO only lasts 1 yr after the original warranty expires.
If you have an independent mechanic you trust, it’s probably a decent buy. I’d personally try to find a 2019 since it’s the current gen.
Just remember that only goes for the 3 series. A 4 series would need to be 2021 or newer to be the current generation.
At $35k, you’d probably get a 2019 330i that is CPO. I would avoid the 2018 model as they’d be mostly out of warranty is the older platform. From what is hear the newer 330i with the B48 engine is fairly reliable.
Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
