Blacked out BMW G82 M4/M440s are growing on me

I bet we will see the new G82 M4s regularly cross $90k and and the even flirt with $100k.

Wouldn’t be surprised. For sure in the $90k range for loaded models, and $100k range when people start tacking on individual colors and m performance parts.

I crunched some numbers a few weeks back on bimmerpost, calculating all the way from the E36 M3 to the F82 M4. I did a quick analysis on past base price bumps. Without getting into too much detail; my guess is the G82 M4 Coupe is going to have a base price of around $75,580.

I personally would not be surprised if the base is closer to $79-80k
Add in comp pack, exec pack, full merino leather, and my guess is it should be around 90k-ish.
add in MPE + ind. colors, and you’ll be close to 100k

I had too much time on my hands that day, calculate the price another way as well:
Here’s another way to look to come up with the base price…
A fully loaded F32 440Xi Cpe is for $65,140 [ https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow…upq24v/summary ]
A base F82 M4 is for $69,150

69,150 - 65,140 = 4,010

A G20 M340Xi fully loaded is for $69,175 [ https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow…u21ynr/summary ]
69,175 + 4,010 = 73, 185
It could be reasonable to assume the G80 M3 has a base price of $73,185

At launch, the 2015 M3 had a base MSRP of $62,925
At launch, 2015 M4 had a base MSRP of $65,125

65,125 - 62,925 = 2200
The difference between the coupe and the sedan was $2,200

Take the predicted base price for the G80 M3 $73,185
73,185 + 2200 = $75,385

Predicted price for the base G82 M4 = $75,385

So both methods that I have used to come up with a base price for the G82 M4 have a 75 next to them. One analyzed the price differences YoY from the E36 2dr Coupe and onwards. The other just analyzed the differences between the loaded 440/340s and the respective M3/M4s

What’s ironic about this is you’re forecasting price fluctuation as if the m4 is a commodity. Whereas the m4’s price is partially determined by, among many other things, the cost of raw materials and commodities. But i like it. I’m sure you’re not far off from what it will be, I personally think it’ll be somewhere between $70k-$75k ($70k for the m3 and $73k for the m4 seem like the sweet spots to me).

Other things to consider would be to compare historical pricing with competitor pricing (RS5 and C63), and pricing of the X3M/X4M.

I have found that a 10% increase from generation to generation is a decent rule of thumb for sports cars.

Interesting you bring that up,
2019 Audi RS5 (the new ones aren’t out yet) has a base price of $75,195
Tops out at $101K (not including charges for paint to sample or audicare)
http://www.audiusa.com/ ATSC5V2S

2020 C63 S starts at $77500
Tops out at $105,020 (including CCBs, not including maintenance)

I guess BMW can easily justify a $75k ish base for the M4 based on the RS5 & C63S. I think the challenge is the whole M4CS ordeal, where the car had to basically be discounted all the way down to 87K ish where it started selling. I think around $90k is tops for many buyers. Would be interested to see if BMW has to discount these cars steeper.

when you say 10% increase,
would you say it’s 10% from the 2015 F82 to the 2021 G82 or would you say it’s 10% from the 2020 F82 to the 2021 G82?

I’m seeing the RS5 has a starting price of $74k. As for the C63, it would just be the REGULAR C63 right? The C63s would compare to the m3/m4 competition.

The price I calc’d as the base for the RS5 includes the $995 destination charge.
& you’re right it’d be the ZCP models vs. the C63S.
Basically the 2020 F82 ZCP already has a base price of $74,895 (including destination charge) already. So that would be what compares to $77,500 base price of the C63S

Got it. We’re in the ballpark I think.

Here’s to hoping once my lease is up on the M340 (2022) BMW comes out with some incentives on the G80/82. :crossed_fingers:

That grille :face_vomiting:

Another sad moment in 2020.

I think it looks decent, maybe even good. The big problem is American front plates will be a disaster on this. Makes you want to move to PA.

I’m ahead of the curve bruv.

If people actually don’t like the new ones, then theoretically I should be able to flip my 2020 M4 for $$$$$$. DM me offers lmao

front plates are STILL the ugliest thing on the planet.

That yellow is hideous. BMW hasnt produced a decent yellow since the E36

Ugh looks terrible with the front plate on it. I was not a fan of the monster grille at first but it is growing on me. Especially with the black trim on a black car and no front plate. I am in PA, saw a blacked out X7 with a black grille, no front plate and I will say on a large SUV the look was actually pretty good!

The shadow line trim does look really good on the X7, it’s more appropriate and proportionate compared to something like the 7 series. No front plates in PA is something I took for granted, PA residency does have some perks.
