Better place to lease Florida or New York

,

I’m in the market for a entry level luxury car in the MSRP 35-45k range and wondering whether I will likely get a better deal in New York or Miami area. I am moving to Florida at the end of June and my work will pay for the transport of my car if I need to bring one down. I’m trying to decide where I can likely get the better deal, New York in June or Miami in July?

Completely subjective and depends on brand. Generally speaking NY. Shop both and find out.

Definitely not FLA. Probably not NY. Aim for NJ/PA/CT.

Unfortunately my time before/after is fairly limited, so I will likely be using a local broker in either place. Sounds like I’ll shoot for NY/NJ/CT

Yeah…I am there and I agree. The off the shelf deals posted on the board for other places require some work to get to down here. But, in exchange, January is nice.

New York/ New Jersey

When I first moved to Florida, I bought two cars out of state within the first couple years to avoid dealer fees. However, I’ve since bought 7 (either for me or my parents) in Florida. Finding the right dealer is key. I’m in the Orlando area and there are dealers I’d never step foot into ever again, but there are some good ones out there that will earn your business.

one thing to consider: can’t do MSDs in NY

When you bought those cars out of state and then registered them in Florida, did they nail you with that ridiculous out of state purchase registration fee? I recall this being a big deal a few years back, but I’m not sure if the state is still doing that on purchases.

Please share who is a horror show in the Orlando area. Just out of curiosity really.

Oh I think I know what you’re talking about - it took me a bit to think…that increased “new plate fee” took effect after 2008 I believe. However, Some of the registration fees were reduced under Rick Scott since then. But no…I didn’t have to pay that crazy new plate fee because I already had a transfer plate.

You should buy a car in the northeast/mid Atlantic after having established FL residency.

That way you can avoid both high NY taxation and FL doc fee.

Paying NY tax upfront and then paying FL tax on the monthly would be the worst outcome.

What does that have to do with this thread?

Exactly…I’ll delete it. Thank you for pointing that out to me. However, I was answering a gentlemen’s question about which dealers aren’t good in this area based off of how a dealership trains their employees and treats their customers without trying to bash them directly. (I could share a winded story about how that dealer disciplined a previous employee for telling a prospective customer over the phone they didn’t have a particular car in their used car inventory, but that would also be in the wrong thread.) With a little research, one could fill in the dealer blank. Besides the Bad apples out there, I suppose I’m trying to say that I’ve been able to get pretty good deals here in Florida when I originally thought they weren’t to be found. Since a few here have a better than the next guy ego…I try to stay out of all that as I find this site to be very helpful and appreciate many of those that contribute. I’ll PM him next time - if he’s truly in this area looking for a new car?!

The most helpful thing would be to post the names of the good ones on the forum.

That would benefit the most people

True! I definitely agree with keeping things positive - which is why I wanted to chime in and say I’ve been lucky in Florida. (Yes, there is no way around the high dealer doc fee, but I find that sales prices can offset this if one is a good negotiator. I honestly can’t believe - even in my own family how many people just say okay and pay a dealer’s first quote.)

I rarely see people post dealer information unless they are a representative from a dealer, so I am hesitant to name dealers directly for the world to see and quite honestly there’s many variables at play as I believe timing is key. Is the dealer shooting for a particular monthly goal?

Here goes:YMMV as I believe timing, sales professional, manager, etc all play a major role.

Sanford Infiniti was great. Their sister store in Orlando may be good too, but their initial price was way off so I didn’t bother. I posted about the $300ish/ month QX60 pure 5 months ago. I didn’t have VPP. :frowning:

Carl Black was also great for two purchases. The sales professional I worked with in March ‘19 really worked hard to earn our business. I would highly recommend him. Pm me for his name if you need a Chevy, GMC, or Buick. We will consider them again when we are due to replace our ‘13 GMC Duramax. Dealer fee is also one of the lowest at $499 for leases and I think it might be $599 for purchases? We were able to negotiate for less than invoice - which is hard to do with GM products around here…even though it might not be as hard in other areas of the country…

Jenkins Acura and Jenkins Hyundai Jenkins dealerships have those dealer add on stickers, so that needs to be negotiated off the price. I’m sure they get enough people to pay it, so a loss here and there is probably okay to them. Like others have said, dealers can’t always sell at such low prices for everyone if we lease hackers want those unicorn deals…

Any of these dealers above could have had management changes, so I’m not trying to say they are the best. And I’m sure you could find some bad reviews on dealer rater…but these are the dealers I’ve had success.

FWIW I leased from a dealer in AL, drove it to FL and just paid $167 to register there. Everything else was taken care of- this seems to be the standard fee for new car registration in FL at the tax office.
