Best way to search for demos

Was wondering if anyone had more insight on the best way to search for demos. Can focus on BMW, although I am interested in a general approach as well.

I am currently going through Cargurus.com, selecting used, setting to 2023-2024, and looking at vehicles with <5000 miles (mileage varies based on company), and then clicking on individual cars seeing if they have 0 previous owners.

Is there a better way?

if you use autotrader’s advanced search, you can enter “demo” or “loaner” as a keyword. It will get you some but not all results. No easy way to search for those.

Make sure you understand how the mileage lowers the rv and causes the payment to increase. I’m not saying a loaner isn’t worth it however you do need to have expectations grounded in reality.

Certainly understand this could put you in the territory for example of buying new tires which negates a portion of the savings. When coupled with a reduction in rv it’ll add up to the point you very well may be better off just getting a new one.

This search is actually for my sister, who’s planning on a cash purchase of an X7.

However, I completely agree from a leasing perspective and need to look into more about how mileage affects RV for specific brands. I’m pretty sure it dramatically affects BMW, but not sure about Mercedes, Audi, etc.

Why a demo/loaner then? That’s another word for a free rental car. A one-owner used/CPO is a better choice, all else being roughly equal.

Loaners are amazing leases but awful buys. Most loaners are low mileage but heavily abused. People use regular instead of premium, redline it before breakin is finished, etc. Especially on a car like an x7 where the loaner discounts aren’t great.

Hmmm, I don’t actually know - I think my mindset was still in the leasing scenario, but you’re right - for her, a demo/loaner doesnt provide any benefit compared to one-owner CPO. Warranty would still be based on what’s remaining of the 5-year/40K. And the one-owner vs rental use is very true.
