Best value CA carpool-eligible deals

California’s “Clean Air Vehicle” program cuts commute by letting you drive in the HOV/carpool lane, and is a good match for leasing (stickers expire): https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/carpool/carpool.htm

I got a worse commute last year! We already own a van and have solar PV panels, so any nice pure electric or hybrid will suffice. Using this site and (somewhat data-suspicious) dsrleasing, I see a couple interesting cars: Volvo s90/xc60 T8 Momentum, Chevy Bolt Premier, Audi A3 etron, Honda Clarity Plug-In, Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 350e, Nissan Leaf SV, Volkswagen eGolf.

Any advice on which cars to consider? Any advice on where to find hov-sticker filtered lease deals?

Maybe another way to state is, what’s the most luxurious hov-sticker PHEV/EV lease with Android Auto, ACC, and LKA under $20k before taxes for a 36-mo lease, and what’s the best value in the ~$13k – $20k range?

Best value in 10k range total lease cost is the Clarity PHEV.

I would seriously look at the VOLT Premier. Still get the stickers and not have to worry too much about charging it. You could lease a premier Volt within your budget guidelines.

Note that I have a base VOLT myself and LOVE IT. Just got my red stickers which makes me more happy

I got mine from Marci at Camino Real Chevy. Her contact # is (310) 291-6939. @chevysalesgirl is also a top resource for Volt/Bolts.

Good luck!

What is your commute distance? I think Volt is the best “value” for me, but I think “value” is subjective. You mentioned luxurious, but how much luxury do you want?

Excuse me, commute distance is 12.5 miles one way with possible recharge at work, and family won’t fit in a sedan, so battery size is not an issue and a hybrid isn’t preferable. Were it not for the Clarity EV’s waitlist I’d have already leased one. We just installed sufficient solar PV to cover and EV commute, and NEM means we get very little for overproduction, so kWh are basically free and I’d like to use them.

As for “luxurious”, something between the Clarity PHEV and Volvo s90 (though I worry that the s90 is “too” nice, or at least too big!). I can’t justify a Tesla  Volvo xc60/s60 look perfect but I see no good deals. Any suggestions on how I can do more efficient research?

Anything other cars I should consider?

Clarity is probably your best bet. Most EVs are either smaller and not that luxurious, or high end with no good lease deals.

Any of the vehicles on the T8 platform will do, but you are requesting 2 diverse options. Luxury and frugality.

I just put up solar panels and went through the same exact thing. I ended up with a Volt. All the options needed, 53 miles per charge, and well under 10K. The Bolt can be had for under 10K after rebates as well.

The S90 T8, or BMW variants, 330e, 530e, all have much shorter electric ranges, and will cost about 20K to lease. So you will get the luxury, but will pay more, and will potentially, not get everything out of the solar that you wanted.

The Clarity is full size compared to the Volt and matches performance specs. If it didn’t look like a desiccated space ship, It would be a good option. Again, this can be had for less than 10K.
