Separately, what are the scams to watch out for? I have heard stories of folks buying car from a private party and then wanting their money back because they claim that the car is a lemon. How can I protect myself against scams like these?
I sold a previous vehicle private party in CA by advertising on CarGurus and AutoTrader and Facebook Marketplace.
I got leads from all three, but I found the buyer on FBM.
Best to put it in more than one place, especially when the cost is minimal/nil.

When my dad sold a car to a private party while he was out of town, I helped with the transfer.
The buyer banked where I did, so we went to a branch together, they drew a cashiers check in my presence, which I then endorsed and deposited into my account before we left the building.
You can also use an escrow service, but that adds time and cost.
