Best Path to End Lease Early to Buy New

I’m currently leasing a 2022 Hyundai Kona Limited and only 7 months in. However, I’ve decided to go EV and would like to buy a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. What’s the best way to handle terminating the lease? Sell to a third party like CarMax or work with the Hyundai dealer where Im buying the Ioniq 5? Any ideas feedback is most welcome.

You should check the Wiki. Many services like Carmax won’t buy Hyundai leases.

Since sales tax is very relevant here, you should tag your state instead of using USA-nationwide which makes no sense here.

Thanks, I edited my post and tagged WI. Last May I was able to sell my leased 2019 Kina to CarMax without a hitch. Not sure if that has changed since, however.

Sure has, June changed a lot of things. But the Hyundai dealer can buy it direct, so get a Carmax price so you have a baseline and negotiate with the Hyundai dealer. Avoid lumping the transactions together as they tend to slip things into the fine print that you miss.
