Best luxury SUV for money

Hi Hackers,

My lease is ending soon and I need to ask your personal advises. I’m struggling to figure out best 3ppl family SUV option for the price for my next lease, with further intention to buy it out.
Currently I consider these cars:

  1. Highlander
  2. RX350/450
  3. GLE350
  4. XC90
    My major criteria are:
  5. Reliable safety features
  6. Interior comfort
  7. Crash reliability
  8. Low cost of maintenance after buy out.

According to those criteria I lean towards RX. GLE is a good car but not sure that almost x1.5 price of RX worth of it. XC90 doesn’t look reliable enough to buy out.

What would you recommend?

Thanks

Why would you lease if you intend to buy it?

I just thought to test car first, to make sure that it’s exactly what I need. Otherwise maintenance, and potential car selling might be tough, due to I relatively new in US.

Well go test drive each car and see what you feel. You won’t be able to tell by leasing a car how much maintenance usually is. 3 years is not long enough on a brand new car with new parts.

What is your budget?

I think something about 800$ should be fine. I had test drive of all of them, GLE is nice, but for that price against RX not too much difference. Probably I’m too newby and dont see things that really make sense and explain the price

So, again, why do you want to buy it at lease end? Any of the above issues disappear because you bought it at lease end?

Either lease it and return it. Or
Buy it from the beginning

The RX seems so far behind the game, I can’t imagine considering one.

If you’re purchasing, look at a palisade.

This made me instinctively shout “KIA TELLURIDE!” I haven’t owned one but it looks pretty impressive and I guess is reliable too and probably clearly below GLE price-wise.

If you’re looking for lowcost maintenance, why is a GLE350 on your list?!?

This thread is going nowhere fast. Do you have any specific leasing related questions?

Thanks for advice this would be a good option to consider but seems they do not lease well.

True, they don’t lease amazingly, but it rarely makes sense to lease to own anyway, so purchasing from the get go would be a better move.

Got it. Yeah may be in this case I should reevaluate purchase option over leasing. Appreciate all your comments and help, thank you!

Generally the only times it makes sense is when there are significantly more lease incentives than purchase incentives, like say, a Kia stinger

Understood, thanks!

Or an Acura MDX… wait why isn’t that on the list?

MDX is a great value, but not a great luxury SUV.

Granted neither is the Highlander or rx.

I’m thinkin’ more along the lines of ‘good enough’…

It’s gooder enough than an RX

Risks are the same but price of the car will be much lower after 3 years. So less potential loss.
