Best insurance ideas for Porsche 911 in CA

I’m trying to make the leap to a Porsche 911 somewhere in the 2016-2022 range and there have been amazing recent lease deals. However, the insurance quote on a 2002 911 Carrera base is $2600 for 6 months. I have 5 vehicles in my household and I’m rating the potential Porsche at 5k miles annually. This really blows the budget for us. Anyone know of a “creative” way to insure in SoCal that sounds more reasonable?

Lease or buy is kinda key here the minimums change dramatically for either

Do you have young drivers on your policy? Insurer might be considering them as it’s definitely they might drive the car.

Maybe try an insurer like Haggerty or similar if they are willing to insure it (though your years for the car are nowhere near classic car age).

Having been there and done that with Porsche, my suggestion would be that although you should not expect maintenance issues (this varies widely), they can tend to be pricey.

If you are sweating the extra insurance on the P-car when added to your budget then maybe you should hold off?

I’d be annoyed at 200/mo being my 5th car regardless how much dough I have. Insurance has gotten out of control. I had 4 cars at one point on a policy in 2020ish and the i8 added like $90/mo. You’re not driving every car at once and it seems like rates reflect otherwise now

My 22 911 I think added like 140/mo in so fla as a second vehicle. We have high rates here too. After this car if I add a second it’s gonna be a fun classic car I think. I just don’t drive enough to justify these prices

Feel the pain… no magic/easy button except to call every insurer that works in CA. I even started trying to quote cars individually or in separate groups but didn’t get far either. Every insurer has such different risk exposure appetites… some are so much cheaper on old cars, some are more affordable on high-end ones. Haven’t found one that hits the sweet spot (for me anyway)

Specialty insurers such as Hagerty?

Some of them seem to understand the lower risk of a car driven infrequently

IME if you’re already paying high rates for multiple cars, then adding something like this wouldn’t make a huge difference so it doesn’t sound like he’s there yet. I’d also check to see if there are any young drivers in the house and if they are getting added into the mix without being excluded as drivers.

Of course, the days of cheap insurance for no tickets are long over.

Easy. Don’t and just trailer the car to the track.

All fun ideas, thanks! The daughter’s cars might be an issue. Maybe an older 911 and haggerty is a better entry point for a “just for fun” vehicle.

I have an “agreed upon value” policy with Hagerty for my ‘19 M4 and ‘05 M3. It’s about $186/month total for both vehicles. I’m in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The M3 has 0 deductible and the M4 has $500 deductible.
