How long was your layover? 
I was there for five nights.
Speaking of long layovers—Turkish Airlines offers free hotel accommodation in Istanbul if your connection is at least 20 hours. It’s called Stopover in Istanbul. Economy passengers get one free night, and business-class passengers get up to two.

But I have heard so many horror stories about them and their customer service that have never had the guts to try em out. Sold to Qatar for life lol.
Interesting. This was my first time using them and I had nothing but a great experience. I flew economy on the way in and business on the way back, and I used their lounge too. Everything was top-notch. During my Istanbul stay, everyone I interacted with was very customer service oriented as well.

I flew them biz class and used the free stopover in Istanbul. Hotel was fine (Radisson Blu) in a good location for sightseeing. I found customer service to be very good at the hotel and airport including the lounge. The flight attendants were only okay on the flights but a good experience overall.
