Best books on car leasing/buying?

This site is a wonderful source of information. At the same time, nothing can replace the printed word, and I’m wondering if the hackrs have any recommended books for car leasing/buying?

Some of the ones below look interesting. One issue is that the car industry is changing all the time, so I wonder if any are outdated / no longer useful.

IMO, you’re wasting your money when all the info you need is here. I’ve never read a how to lease book, and have no intention to.

Exactly. Any person of normal intelligence can spend 30 minutes reading the articles here and get 90% up to speed

Those books were published in 2004, 2007, and 2012. A lot has changed, even from the vanity book Mr Palm Beach Toyota wrote 7 years ago.

I nominate @michael to package the FAQs into a $5 eBook. Will be a #1 best seller.

The car buying/leasing process has been evolving over the years. However, leasing 101 will never change. Once you have researched a car you are looking to lease, look up the RV (residual value), MF (money factor) and incentives you qualify for on the Edmunds forum: https://forums.edmunds.com/.

Here is some advice:

  1. It is always best to do all negotiations by email or phone.
  2. Pricing of a car will vary based on a number of factors such as your location, the amount of time the car has been sitting on a dealer’s lot, time of the year you are looking to buy and whether a new/refreshed model is being released shortly.
  3. Never step foot into a dealership unless you are there to test drive a car, inspect a car you are looking at or sign paperwork.

As some have already said, you are wasting your time and money buying books. There is a ton of information on this forum and other sites like edmunds.

[Edit]: I forgot to mention NEVER to payment shop by telling a dealer how much you are prepared to pay per month. Always focus on the pre-incentive sale price of the car.

If this is too much for you to handle, hire a broker.

Good luck.

ebook of @vhooloo’s crystal balls predictions for $0.99 would beat it.

If you’re reading on this site, isn’t it printed? I haven’t seen the YouTube version of Lease Hacker :sunglasses:

Please do not bring him back from the crypt. During his last go round he sprinkled negativity all over the LH forum. If you say his name 2 more times, he’s absolutely coming back.
