As a current owner of 2 bmw (sedan & suv), i am planning to purchase/lease a 3 row suv with a usable 3 rd row. I want something which is fun driving. I know x7 is coming up but that will be way over my budget. Any recommendation under $500 p/m.
QX60 is great in every department except low speed body roll
Thanks. What speed the body rolls becomes normal?
I would say there’s body roll at all speeds but it’s expected at mid to higher speeds in a 3 row SUV. The low speed is something I sensed on the Pilot and other softer brands - didn’t expect the QX60 to have it too
I see what you ate saying and agree. I would not be racing so little but if bidy roll is ok. I really like the 2.5 ltr turbo engine in mazda cx9. But the interior is cheap. Any idea about vw atlas?
MDX and CX9 were excellent. Acadia Denali was great as well. Haven’t seen the Atlas but it has the last gen VW interior
Does mdx has functional 3rd row?
Love our qx60 - very well rounded vehicle.
If ur definition of a functional 3rd row is to seat 3 adults, than head over to the full size suv like a tahoe, subarban. They drive boring though with feeling of tipping over (many here wont agree on my last comment). If 3rd row sub for children under 12 years old, then yes MDX drives nice, try out the RX350L, i haven’t deiven the L but regular RX feels too comfortable. The fun factor is missing. Check out the Enclave, traverse and the Pilot.
Bottom line is that even the most brilliant designers and engineers with unlimited budgets can only fight physics for so long. It always wins. A higher center of gravity and larger size will make for a less engaging, less responsive car. There’s only so much you can do.
There are probably at least 10 different threads about this. Just search.
My definition is kids aged 5-6 should have enough leg room while sitting in car seat. I am looking for a car with slight sportness and good steering feeling similar to my x3. I hate loose steering. While I agree that i cant expect 3 row suv to drive like sedan but i hate to drive a car which is too much soft and sluggish. Till now acura mdx and qx60 looks promising. Maybe i will end up with demo audi q7 wih cheap lease. lol
Imho, the 3rd row in the Tahoe and regular length Yukon are not fit for adults, need to move to the longer GM platforms or move to Navigator/Expedition or a minivan.

Very reasonable 3rd for this segment. More usable than CX9. MDX steering wheel weight is sure on the light side, more loose than QX60 from my test drive impression
I also have a QX60. There are lots good quality, roomy, comfortable, affordable, but fun to drive is far from it. It drives big compared to a MDX, not even close in term of driving dynamic to something like a Audi Q7
One thing to keep in mind, with any of these crossovers, once 3rd row is up, cargo space is reduce to almost non existent. If you need 3 rows and some reasonable cargo, you need to look for full size SUV or minivan.
Thanks so much for your feedback. After couple of days on internetting, I realized I am looking for a 3 row crossover i.e VW Atlas, Chevy Traverse, Honda Pilot etc. Anything else will be smaller for my need. I am leaning towards VW Atlas. I will look around for some cheap lease deals in LH forum.
No test drive experience with Chevy, but I did test drive Atlas and Pilot. I think Atlas is a good choice. Pilot’s interior (1st + 2nd + 3rd leg rom) is shorter than QX60, plus to get the same level of options, Pilot will cost more. Personally, I think Pilot is very similar to a minivan in look, I have no issue with it, but my wife did. If I were getting a Pilot, I will probably just buy it. Its lease deal isn’t good, but resale value is very high.
