Autonation BMW lease payoff

Has anyone sold a BMW lease to an autonation dealership lately? I was under the impression that Autonation was a workaround to the 3rd party lease payoffs since Autonation has some BMW dealerships in their network?

Was trying to sell my lease to them but bmw financial said they will only accept it from a BMW Autonation dealer and not just anyone in their network. Which honestly makes sense to me but I’ve heard of people selling to an Autonation Toyota for example.

And if so, is there some process or workaround that Autonation should be doing?

EDIT/UPDATE: Ended up working out. Guess I had some rookies who were unfamiliar with the process at first.

Thanks

Yes that’s exactly what I’m doing. At the dealership now. Maybe they are a little inexperienced with this or something lol

All they need to do is to take copy of your id and registration , and payoff from BMFS and appraise the car , send peperwork ro corporate in Florida office and they will cut you a check within 1-2 hours depending if you have an equity in your lease

Btw - I just did this (it was an AN Chevy so no need for it to be a BMW dealer in their network) but they will still ding you for the $350 dispo fee so take that into account when assessing their offer.
