I have a specific question, but let’s see if there’s more general interest in the topic.
My dad has a large collection of promotional cars (maybe 200 or 300) that he acquired over the years, ranging from 1950s Fords and GMs through 1980s MOPAR. I think this genre of collectibles largely ceased to exist after that.
These were mostly ordered from the auto manufacturer through the family dealership’s parts department.
Most of them are in the original boxes, unopened.
I think he has an entire case of Chrysler Lasers.
He’s interested in selling them, although it’s going to be too time consuming to list them on Ebay one at a time.
Any thoughts on how to find someone who might want the entire collection, or at least a specific genre (like all 1960s/1970s MOPAR)?
I also don’t know how to approach valuation, aside from trying to find very similar cars in Ebay listings.
I have nothing of value to add lol… other than that is cool and it would be interesting to see the entire collection.
It is definitely a unique market but there is also definitely money there (if you’re able to land the right buyer). I know you know that.
Any idea what he paid for any specific one back in the day? I would blindly guess around $10?
1969 GTO by chance?
IIRC, $10 sounds about right for some of the later ones.
Some of the open-box examples were displayed in his office for years, and I’d like to have a couple of those for sentimental reasons.
I’m not entirely sure about everything that’s in the collection, I mostly only know about how much room the collection takes up because I’ve helped them move it so many times (one garage to the other, into a guest room closet, back out to a garage, etc.).
This will be a fall/winter project. I’m just trying to do some prep work, because I know he’s going to ask for my help.
If you happen across 68-69 i would take it.
We need another thread for his vintage dealership photos.
Do most of the boxed ones have barcodes?
Not sure. I can check when we haul them out. I’m guessing no on the 1950s Thunderbirds.
It might be a Bring a Trailer worthy collection. I would contact them.
If they do, you know a guy with a bluetooth fingertip barcode scanner that is currently collecting dust. It works with any phone or laptop, can scan them into notes or word or excel.
Several bat-esque sites sell as many accessories as they do cars
TheMBmarket and Pcarmarket come to mind
I’d be shocked if the TV auctions like Mecum and Barrett Jackson didn’t have a side hustle of memorabilia too.
Just saw the title and I thought you mean Collectible REAL cars, not models / toys
I still have my old 1993 red Maitso Countach with the scissor doors kicking around the garage somewhere
I renamed the thread. I couldn’t conjure up the right word in the moment.
Absolutely
