I’m planning to buy a used Audi S4 in the coming months. Ideally 2024 if possible (though 2023 would be fine too). Does anyone have any insight as to when there may be more (or fewer) available on the market. For example, would I expect a lot to be coming back from 2 year leases around October? Or is there different month that is likely to be better? Any general comments welcome too.
It’s not to say there were zero S4 leases, however it is pretty uncommon to see S4 leases on here and I suspect in general. I suppose you could go back to the Audi lease forum on Edmunds for 2023 and see what the mf & rv and see if the 24 or 36 month lease made more sense at the time. Speculation would tell me it was the 36 month lease that was better.
What I suspect you’ll find is most people that wanted an S4 most likely purchased it at the time. From time to time I’d think it’d be cool to pick up an S3 or S4.
Have you looked on Swap A Lease or LeaseTrader to see if any are available with say 6-9 months left on the lease? You could take it over and then purchase at the RV.
Won’t be that many b/c Audi leasees retain liability on transfer, not that common.
Audi only sold about 16,000 A4/S4 in 2023 and 2024
I’d start looking at Carmax, Cargurus, and have someone with Manheim access see what is gone through the lanes this past year to see what’s turning over.
But I agree with @ApexHunt that because S4s never had a strong lease, trying to time them coming off market might not be as useful as a slow and steady search for a good one that checks OP’s boxes.
From what I’ve seen, more used inventory tends to hit the market toward the end of the year, when people return 2-3 year leases (often around Sept–Dec).
Also look for model-year rollover months (late summer) when dealers clear out older stock.
Keep an eye on lease return reports and local dealer auctions, that’s often where you’ll see a jump in S4s.
Would anyone agree to what I have said? Or any objections?
