I have an RS e-tron GT that I will be returning. Residual is over $100K. Lease is with Audi (VW Credit). So if I lease a new Audi, using VW Credit (so legally the same owner of the car), can I lease an A6 for <$100K and not pay any Texas sales tax on the new lease? Or do the tax credits from the residual go back to VW Credit, and they use it separately?
To answer your question, no. You get no sales tax benefit to grounding your lease then leasing another Audi. On the other hand, if Audi is offering sales tax credits on the A6 when you lease it, then the RS is immaterial. You’ll get the sales tax credit on the new vehicle because Audi is offering it. Or, if you trade-in the RS before lease maturity on the A6 then you’ll get the sales tax benefit of the trade in since you are going from one Audi Financial lease to another. But, you will be majorly upside down on the RS if you trade it in I’d assume.
So bottom line, no, there’s no way to do what you’re trying for.
Thanks for the reply. What if I do a lease pull ahead (I only have 2 months left). Would that be considered a trade in scenario?
No, that is not a trade. You’re still grounding the vehicle with the dealer. It’s not the same as a “trade-in.”
I know last month Audi only offered sales tax credits on the Q7 and Q8. I got a Q7 last month and got the sales tax credit.
I’m a bit confused by what you’re asking conceptually.
The residual value is what you would pay (plus taxes and fees) to purchase the car at the end of the lease. I’m not sure how that would affect what you pay for a future lease unless you plan to buyout the car and then trade it in (but I assume that the real world resale value of your car is less than the RV, so it’s probably not a good idea to buy it out).
Simply grounding your lease, as mentioned above, and the RV have nothing to do w/ the sales tax credit (AFAIK).
