Audi Electrical System Malfunction on Day 2

Picked up my lease on Friday with 13 miles on the car. Saturday morning after driving a few miles my brand new q8 etron got an Audi Electrical System Malfunction warning. I took it to service, and they gave me a loner. It has been 3 days and today I am told it needs a new motor and computer. Anyone have any tips? Should I be asking the dealership for a similar new car? Do I even have that option? They have no timetable on how long it will take. Really shitty on day 2 to have my car crap out.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.

It doesn’t hurt to ask. Tell them you would like a Q8 loaner.

Your options are defined by what your state’s lemon law says and when it applies. So that’s a good place to start

If you asking if the dealer will give you a new car, no they won’t. Only option now is to contact a lemon lawyer and see what your options are. Plenty of recos for lemon lawyers on LH. Unfortunately it looks like you got hit during the “infant mortality” period of the product.

Is there a lemon law for , broke out of the gate?

If not, op gotta wait the LL period

California Lemon Laws should protect me but what a terrible experience coming from another EV brand that didn’t have one issues in 3.5 years. I am glad I leased

Wait, are you saying you have no recourse other than the lemon law in CA? Meaning there is nothing you can do unless and until the car has so many days out of service, so many attempts at an unresolved repair, etc? If so, you should stop believing everything you read.

If you get the runaround from the dealer and AoA/VAG, contact a lawyer and discuss your options that don’t require waiting that long.

Doesn’t hurt to reach out to the selling dealer and see if they’d do a goodwill swap into a similar unit for the same terms. They may or they may not. Doesn’t hurt to ask

First thing I did was call and text my sales person and sales manager. Both said they would check in on the car and call me back. Hopefully they just make it right. Sounds like a long shot according to people here.

Probably is a longshot, but I have counseled dealer clients to make a goodwill switch in the past. Never know

They called me today to tell me “They are still trying to gain access to connectors of modules for inspection”

I will reach out to a lemon lawyer in case because this is pretty insane

I wonder if they could unwind the deal and still be able to sell the vehicle as “new”? If not, I would wager that they would try to keep you in that car.

As others have said, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to at least try to get them to swap you into another unit.

It was just 2 days. Did they even send the documents to the bank? I would ask if they can unwind the deal.

yes, hence why I had suggested it

Agree with you. Sorry didn’t mean to directly reply to you.

It was less than 15 hours and under 30 miles

In California, if the vehicle is out of service for repairs for 30 days or more, it qualifies as a lemon.

Update

Still getting the run around from the dealership. Told them to replace the car or refund the lease. I think at some point I will just have to hire a lemon lawyer. Are there recs for ones in Cali on this site? Thanks

Since this is in California, who is the dealership so we can avoid it?
Also do not get to upset about this, ask for a good loaner and get AoA involved asap. If the car has not been repaired in 30 days start the process for buy back with AoA. It happened to me on the Etron GT after 2 months of delivery, a module was defective and the car shut down in the middle of the freeway.
After 30 days at the shop AoA made me an offer to keep the car once it was repaired and get me a check for $10.000 for the trouble or return the car, get all the down payment + 1 of the 2 monthly payments i made and get $5000 loyalty voucher. I opted for the 2nd one. It will take around 45 days from the beginning…

The dreaded “Electrical System Malfunction” error message happened to me 2 days ago. I have a 2024 Q8 Etron with 8700 miles on it. I did a little research and found that Audi had a class action suit filed against them for years 2019-2022 for this same problem. The lawsuit alleges that Audi knew about the problem but continued to manufacture cars with it. It appears as if they still haven’t figured it out. Luckily I was able to get a loaner Q8 Etron from the dealer. As far as I can tell it does take quite a while to fix the problem if it is a battery issue or something having to do with a rear drive motor. I have already read the lemon laws for Florida just in case I need to go further with this. Anyone have any other suggestions?
