Audi E-Tron doesn't have rear side airbags?

Seriously considering the current E-Tron / Costco lease deal.

It appears the rear side airbags are an option, not standard. Is that even possible in 2021?

And I haven’t seen any Premium models that have this option selected.

They are an option and are not installed on most E-Trons. Welcome to the world of overpriced German cars.

Check out the discussion here around potential child safety implications with car seats, though it seems like the curtains do come standard still - perhaps that’s why it is optional? At the very least, that means you get to fork out an extra $400 if you want it!

I thought my BMW had rear side airbags standard but it turns out it only has rear curtains as standard. I guess ignorance is bliss.

A key safety feature as an option ? Ridiculous.

Sorry, but taking safety advice from an anonymous Audi Internet forum is absurd.

Here is what NHTSA says: Safer Car Vehicle Safety, Ratings and Recalls | NHTSA

I guess no audi etron for you then lol

Would you prefer it be optional or not available at all like on most cars?

The majority of cars do not have rear side impact airbags, they have rear curtain airbags. No volvo in the lineup has rear side aidbags, and I don’t think majority of BMWs have them either, could be wrong. I know subarus don’t.

Didn’t realize its optional in most cars but I would simply add it to standard equipment and increase price if I were Audi. They can always highlight it as " we have better standard safety equipment" . The message I get as a customer now is " We can save your life but only if you pay $400 more". Not to mention many people would not even realize this is even an option.

Yup add more features, standard, for a slow selling vehicle…this is the way

Enough said.

I would rather spend $400 on something useful, instead of extra airbags where no one will ever sit.
