Audi A4 - Brake pads worn out - lease ends in 4 months

My lease is up in 5 months. A couple of weeks ago, I got a warning on the dashboard that brake pads are warned out. The dealership gave me a heads up from the last service that front breaks are almost gone and they need a replacement. Audi quoted me $850 for front pads and rotors which is too expensive to put on a lease car that is going back to the dealership in 4 months. What should I do? Get it fixed from Audi or go to an auto shop and get pads(only).

PS: I want to keep the car with me until December due to personal reasons. Also, I have a nice offer(+2k equity) from Carvana to sell the car. But, I need a car until December.

Order the OEM pads off Ebay or Amazon and get a local mechanic to swap them out. That’s what I did on a BMW anyway.

Just change the pads no rotors at an independent shop.

However before that ask Audifs what they charge they have pretty reasonable prices for wear and tear.

Thanks for the advice. I have lease-end protection, so no out-of-pocket expenses at the lease-end. I just don’t want to spend 1K on pads & rotors for 5 months

Get your pads changed. You don’t want to see what your insurance premiums look like after rear-ending someone

This is irrelevant with 5 months of lease left and pads that need changed now.

I figure if my car stops on demand for at least 70% of the lease, that’s good enough for me.

Let the next fool pay for brakes.

Dunno why they’re even quoting you for rotors, I don’t even change MTB rotors that quicky. Just get the pads changed independently. Definitely don’t drive with worn out pads, that should be a no brainer…

I had Volvo advise me that our 2.5 year old leased XC40 with only 20,000 miles on it needed pads and rotors changed. It’s my wife’s daily driver and she doesn’t drive it hard. I contacted Volvo and asked if they considered a rotor change at 20,000 miles to be standard operation for Volvos? The dealership reached back out and said Volvo would replace the pads free of charge and when I asked about the rotors, funnily enough, they now didn’t need to be changed. It might be worth contacting Audi Corporate if your mileage is low and put the same question to them.

Certain Volvos have had some abnormal rate of brake consumption that Corporate has basically paid to replace them under warranty. Unless OP can prove otherwise by finding lots of other Audi lessees/owners with the same issue, it’s not going to be the case here.

Brake pads don’t need to be purchased from the dealer just like tires. Order a decent pair online and it should be one hour labor in the corner garage. They are too cheap to risk a collision.

Thanks, But I need the car to run errands and enjoy the bay area summer. Probably these 5 months are my last Audi days. I tried to sell it to Carvana. But Audi quoted them more than the payoff.

Ok call me when you no longer need it
