Are they pulling my leg? (E-wagon)

My current E350 lease is expiring in a couple of months, and I was looking to switch the wagon version (E400 I think). Dealer tells me that the monthly payments on those are double what I’m paying for my current sedan ($660/mo), because “Mercedes doesn’t make as many of them”, “they are in high demand”, and “there are no deals on these”.

That sounds rather absurd? opinions? I tried running the calculator on this site for an E400 + premium 3 package with a $10K off discount (about the same I got for my current car and previous one as well) and got a similar payment to what I currently have with about $1200 down… is this realistic?

The agree with the dealer’s numbers. Do you even know the RV/MF of the wagon? And I highly doubt you would get anywhere close to the same discount as the sedan (e300).

I’m a bit confused. So you want to take a $70k vehicle, deduct $10k, and pay $330/mo with $1200 up front? Do I have that right? Or is $660 your current payment and dealer is telling you $1300+ on the wagon?

BTW, truecar shows $4500 dealer discount with no trunk money in my area (NJ).

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. Dealer is saying the payment for a wagon would be “double what” I’m paying now (which is $660/mo). Even if he is exaggerating a bit, it sounds crazy.

E sedans are a dime a dozen. Everyone has a ton of them. The wagons are harder to find since there are less and I would expect less discounts.

That certainly is crazy. You could do a 60-mo finance with $0 down for that kind of money.

The E Class (400) sedans start at $59k and the Wagons (400) start at $63k so it’s difficult to compare, and yours was a 350 from at least a couple of years ago so there are some significant differences. Non-sport sedans across the board are being heavily discounted though but the wagons are far more rare so discounts will be minimal. That combo of factors will push the cost up considerably.

I’ve heard that Mercedes makes their wagons specifically for customers who already have Merc wagons. Basically, if you like Merc wagons, you’re going to come back for another one.

One thing is for sure, the demand for the wagon is not high. But the reason you won’t get a good discount is because Americans don’t buy wagons, hence manufacturers make very few of them.

Since supply is short, the few people who come looking for them won’t get great discounts. It’s basically semantics but yeah, the general public isn’t knocking down dealerships doors looking for wagons.

Want to know what’s crazy? Our dealership has a E400 Wagon Service Loaner. P2 package! Other than that, only 1 other E400 wagon at our dealership. They are rare cars and hard to get a “Hackr” deal on them.

Regardless, $1300/mo is indeed “crazy.”

Demand for the E-Class wagons is excellent. That’s why MB doesn’t need to discount them to move volume. They sell themselves.

It makes me sad. Prices are high, because there aren’t many of them because Americans don’t buy them…because they’re too expensive. gah!

Where are you located ? And would it make sense to extend ur lease till closer to December. Ull get a better deal towards end of year

The wagons are never a good deal, when my in laws were shopping for euro wagons they asked me why they were so pricey. I told them to look at the ML350 because it was built here and had better deals. That’s what they bought.

SF bay area… and I’m looking outside the MB world now. The V90 xcountry looks like a very interesting option.

I’m glad they still make AMG wagons

Lol, no it isn’t. Please take a look at sales of wagons versus sedans for E class sales. There is a reason why there is no C class wagon or 5 series wagon in the US.

It’s easy to move inventory when you don’t HAVE inventory. There’s 155 E class estates in the entire country for sale.

Check out so cal dealers… they have more inventory and I’ve seen wagons sit for days
