Are dealership add ons always negotiable?

Hi All,

I am currently negotiating with a dealer on the selling price of a car and they are telling me they have already installed some additional dealership specific add-ons that don’t originally get added into the MSRP. Is there any way around this? Is there any room for negotiation on these sorts of things?

They are specifically telling me they’ve already applied Clearshield that is a clear lining to protect door edges and handles from dings and scratches… They’ve also installed an Avas tracking device into the car, which is just real time satellite tracking of the car. These are each $595 and $895, respectively, which seems pretty steep considering I didn’t have the option to include these adds on. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Easier to negotiate the money off equivalent to the adds. It shows that you’re willing to let F&I have a piece of the action so long as your target is met.

Yes, but if leasing the add ons don’t get residualized and you get boned.

Right that’s why you’d have to negotiate the equivalent $ to the adds off. That would level it off.

Got it, I am looking to purchase the car, so thankfully don’t think that applies to me. I’m seeing all over online that these dealer add ons are definitely negotiable

Most commonly they are all optional/negotiable.

Dealers that won’t sell you a car without them most commonly aren’t worth dealing with.

All the additional security stuff is negotiable. They did not pre-etch your vehicle even if it says it on their sticker. They’ll just cross it out, and make you sign an acknowledgement during the sale. Typically dealer won’t remove roof rails and running boards. Floor mats and crap that are already built into the MSRP sticker are also typically not negotiable.

Same principle applies. Take it off the selling price. Or walk.
