Appropriate to take car to my mechanic myself?

I’m thinking about purchasing a used car from a friend’s acquaintance who works as a used car broker. Is it acceptable for me to request permission to take the car to my mechanic alone for a thorough inspection? This way, I can ensure an unbiased evaluation, especially if the seller and my mechanic may be acquainted.

A PPI (prepurchase inspection) should be the only way to buy this car. They can drive it to your mechanic themselves if that’s the sticking point but either way it needs to be inspected by a mechanic of your choosing.

Walk away if they won’t let the car be inspected by your mechanic
