Yesterday I think the update was pushed to some cars whose CarPlay expired.
So car play got renewed on all vehicles for free.
Since then both my cars, one which car play was already activated in and one which it expired and got reactivated in, stopped connecting to car play
No matter how many times I deleted and re paired it didn’t work
Was wondering if anyone else was having a similar issue
It happens in my 740 often. For some reason it’s usually when I need to update my software or if my wife gets in the car with her iPhone that was paired before. The system def has some serious glitches
Hate to hear this and my 740’s in a parking garage all week. Hope I’m not Messing with this on a 2 hour drive home Friday. I’ll need my Waze for that which is the only real need for CarPlay IMHO.
Oh and I ponied up $80 to turn my CarPlay back on at the end of November only for BMW to announce a week a later they would no longer charge any models for it going forward. I’m going to be waiting on the refund check patiently…
Don’t remind me of bmws terrible nav, I ended up 4 miles from a place I had reservations at once. Ended up in an apartment building parking lot lol never going back to that again
The tech just needs to work. Huge upgrade would be to allow CarPlay to interact with the heads up display. How hard can that be to give them the right side of the heads up screen like the head unit Nav does.
CarPlay used to kick off and on in my gorgeous Accord when I was using a 3rd party cord. Once I started using an apple cord it worked again consistently.
iDrive 6 on 330e and don’t have any trouble with CarPlay. It only acted funky once and drove me crazy as to why they wouldn’t give user the option to select either USB or Wireless as source of CarPlay. But aside from that, Wireless carplay works well for me. Open the door, get in and voila, it’s connected automatically.
You do in a Honda. Our 2018 Odyssey newest model and top trim requires it. Having wireless for CarPlay was on of BMW’s better moves, Until it doesn’t sync.
I don’t think there is a corded option for CarPlay in BMW’s are there? Could be a good backup hardwire solution.
No way to connect CarPlay with USB on a BMW. Only wireless. As you said, if it works it’s the best thing in the world, if it doesn’t you’ll never understand why USB isn’t supported. Can’t have it both ways I guess ha
BMW easily puts very little effort in supporting anything such as CarPlay in its vehicles
It doesn’t even allow for full screen in 2019 model idrive 6 vehicles, no AA either. I’m sure this would require a simple update and not
Need different head units however they don’t seem to be very interested in supporting CarPlay features in my opinion
I know it can be coded but I heard coding can void warranty
Very interesting, I was under the impression that as long as they’re not reading fault codes off of ECU, you should be fine. Another option was to reset it back to original settings before heading in to service. Ofcourse that doesn’t work if your head unit is out.
I think they addressed both these issues with iDrive 7. If I were to make a guess, they probably figured the cost of pushing an update vs rolling out these features with entirely new version without any compatibility issues made more sense to them. But yeah, no full screen right now for CarPlay without coding is a bit annoying.
