Anyone leased a 2019 Golf R?!

How did you get a quote without getting th MF or residual? I feel like you would need that info.

ha good question. i will ask them to send me that now.

This is what they’ve sent so far. Asking for MF and residual now.

You should post on Edmunds to ask for residual, MF, and incentives. Check 26/36/39 months: even with the mileage you might need to put a set of tires on the R before 39 months and you want to avoid that.

In general the GTI will lease much better (but I get wanting to trade AWD for sunroof in cold climate) but just at a glance those numbers aren’t good at all.

They just responded w this:

MF is standard rates set at .00206 and the residual value of the car is 25,665 if you want to buy it at the end

I’m not sure exactly what the takeaway is here. Does this seem right to you?

Thanks for the advice. Not sure what you mean by post on Edmunds? I found a lease calculator on there but not sure if that is what you were suggesting?

He means in Edmunds forums you can post and ask for the correct MF and residual rates.

check edmunds to see if they are marking up the MF. The rate they gave you translates to like 5% APR. I say this a lot about Rs but it’s the truth buy it don’t lease it. I bought mine at invoice ($38k) drove it for 3 years and sold it for $ 29.9 k with just under 25k miles. This car holds its value big time.

X 2400 = an effective interest rate of 4.94%

The buy-rate MF. The captive lender (vwfs) sets the residual and buy-rate MF, the dealer can mark it up.

Thanks for that. Have checked around on Edmunds and that MF seems in line with what they quoted me.

I asked about financing and they quoted me 737.00 over 60 months w 5k down. Just not sure I want to have to deal with selling it down the road, etc.

Agree on buying over leasing. I think the three year total cost of ownership for this car has the potential to match the GTI or possibly even a bit lower. I see three year old examples going for $30k retail. You could do a 72 month loan with zero down and probably be in an equity position after three years as long as you take good care of it and keep the miles down.

Got it. I’d definitely keep miles low and would be garaging so won’t have NYC street wear and tear.

They just responded with this:

The Msrp of the car is 42,074 well sell you the car for 40,501 plus tax and dmv.

Does that seem reasonable?

Like the lease you can shop that. If you want the LH advice it doesn’t sound like you read the FAQ. Meaning:

  • Search the forums (you did and found this). Basically your best case on an R is buy-rate MF at invoice. Do you want the best deal on this, or do you want a deal (in which case, consider a Mazda3 AWD)?
  • Post on Edmunds to get the residual, MF, and incentives for the R at this term for your zip code: it varies.
  • When negotiating deals, negotiate the price before incentives first, then get lease numbers and compare to LH calculator.

If you want to spend $19,500 to drive this for 39 months, go nuts. I can’t imagine you won’t need tires and possibly brakes, so consider a shorter term.

But you can do the math yourself from here: Edmunds and invoice price on the build R you’re looking at. Plug it into the calculator on this site and get your numbers. Post your calculator link if you have specific questions. Likewise if you want to finance you should have all the numbers yourself (no subvented rate for R from VWFS so shop your favorite back or credit union for best rates).

What does the Internet say invoice price is on this R?

Consider hiring a broker: I don’t get the sense you want to do any legwork here.

Is it at a N.Y. dealer (eg no crazy docs fee)? If so anything near invoice is very good. Could grind them a bit but you’re not getting 10% off on this car. Also 19s have the longer warranty, will hold value even better. I say go for it, and get some winter wheels. I personally like the Michelin Pilot 3s all season. Enjoy

Yeah NY dealer.

Just got this from them. Invoice has a bunch of add ons but is in line with what I’ve seen on Edmunds.

What I don’t get is there are a lot sitting on dealer lots and car sales are in the toilet. Gonna have to guess that these will start to soften. I wanted to order one in Irish green but multiple dealers said no, so I gave up.

VW’s sales are up 4.5% YoY, dear :poop:

https://media.vw.com/releases/1210

Golf R up 92% YoY
eGolf up 3,857%

Why should VW subvent? Because you want a deal on an Irish Green one?

Hi: me again. Are you married to this “couldn’t decide” grey color?

I know it’s across the big bad river from Brooklyn but SI VW has (2) Golf Rs both under MSRP and not loaded up with junk on the invoice.

Unless your test drive with this first one was a conjugal visit, I would park this dealer until the last week of the month and shop elsewhere. They know exactly what they have with you now, there is no deal to be had.

Also having lived in Northern VA for 15 years: no love for the HQ move to FERDINAND PORSCHE DR, even if a friend who worked there got me A Plan on my GTI. Everytime I see an invoice or press release I shudder at the unnecessary traffic (and at one time 90% of the Phaetons in the US).
