We are closing to a deal with dealers in SoCal area, while we reside in NorCal (Bay Area).
Dealer quoted ~$800 to ship the new car to us (small SUV, BMW X1 or Audi Q3 depends on the final negotiation), with alternative of other designated carrier by us.
It seems that the simple online search shows average shipping price averages $450 between LA and SF. Anyone has reputable and insured carrier here on LH forum please?
P.S. a road trip is also under consideration, but in these special times …
I"m sure folks do it all the time, though I haven’t personally done it. You could reach out directly to some of the brokers or dealers here and ask for opinions. Or just get a handful of quotes and take the cheapest one. $800 is absurd to ship 400 miles
Thanks! Online search shows up tons of options indeed, and we wonder if fellow LHers might have suggestions on one or two reputable options. I agree that ~$800 is absurd, maybe I’m pushing too hard on the discounts? Well none of the NorCal dealers are matching the quote yet.
I’ve been on LAX-OAK via Spirit a few times … LOL every single time there’s some arguments about carry-on bag at the gate
It’s quite cheap when you buy from Airport Counter instead of online, $30~50 round trip is normal on weekdays. But they cancel quite often, and reimbursed a voucher for taxi for ~$100 once.
… wait … this is a car forum, right?
I’ve sent out some inquiries to Hackers around, and please PM or contact me about shipping options too. Thank you!
All my last 3 cars were from socal. I got quotes for shipping from dealers too and they were in the $350-$450 range. But I picked up the car myself cuz I wanted to inspect it before taking delivery. My costs were:
$100 flight
$40 uber to dealer from airport
$50 gas
$100 I valued for extra miles (400mi @ $0.25/mi).
You can probably get the flight for cheaper right now
Airplanes are the safest place to be right now, air travel number down 95 to 97%, planes are empty, plenty of room to anti-social distance and all the planes have HEPA filters.
I didn’t overhear the count on my first flight, but ORD-SAN had 61 passengers (4 of whom were in First). This is 3-4x as many passengers as I encountered last time I flew (3/30).
I had no trouble at ORD finding perfect solitude to kill a 2.5-hour layover.
