October and November has some great rates for Napa (SFO) from the tri-state NYC area… $250-277 PP RT.
For your 1st time you will want to see and experience all the usual Vegas stuff, but if you have the time and inclination these two pit stops are very worthwhile:
Churn credit cards is the answer. Depending on your destination, will determine which points to get. Asia, Focus on transferring to Singapore, Eva, Cathay Pacific, or LifeMiles/Virgin to book ANA or AA to book JAL. Europe, Air France and Iberia have cheap redemptions business class to Europe.
Africa, Book Qatar with avios or AA to fly business class to Africa with layover in Dubai.
ETc
It’s how I flew Singapore Suites for $7, Emirates First class for $87, Swiss First class for $43
Chase/Amex/Capital One/Citi cards to earn transferrable points.
Thanks, I used to transfer my chase points to United & book them for my asia trip. The recent United devaluation is horrible. I’ll check transferring to those asian airlines instead.
If you have never been, keep in mind that Napa/Sonoma are equally accessible from SFO, OAK, and SAC. From East Coast hubs I imagine SFO is the best bet, but at times I’ve had a lot better luck and pricing on air/cars from one airport over the others.
I have stopped at Hesperia Walmart, Barstow Walmart, and Baker.
I would strongly suggest to use the one in Baker. When I went on Thanksgiving (very crowded), there was 1 hour wait time in Barstow. Hesperia was also crowded. Baker one is huge and had few minutes wait time. Avoid Barstow for sure.
Thanx-I actually used the one on Mojave Dr at the 76 Gas Station in Victorville-it was empty. Stopped at Hesperia WM but there was a maintenance guy in a Ford Lightning working on the LAST TWO available chargers…so I just continued about 7 more miles up the 15. I could’ve made it all the way to Baker but this was too easy… Now I stopped again at Primm and charged to 90% again so I don’t have to charge in Vegas at all
just stop one time on my way back on Wednesday at Baker and be done.
The Barstow is always almost full, so I avoid it.
Well, going back to VEGAS in AM, got a room at The Palms for one night using my Expedia Cash Back and all I pay is the resort fee…$48 tax included.
Craved some AYCE SUSHI at Sushi Neko so decided to just go for a day/two. Adding more miles to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 to get my money’s worth for the lease $88/mo ![]()
Should be in low 100ºF
Got a last time deal with Cruise America to drive from Phoenix to Las Vegas for $9/night.
It is my first time driving a large RV (30’) and planning to visit Grand Canyon, Antelope and Zion.
Any tips or advice?
Dont forget to ask trading cards
Went VEGA$ again this past Monday-Wednesday, stayed at The Rio with an offer of:
$10/nt
$25/nt Resort Fee
$15/day F&B Credit
I don’t gamble so only used the pool and dining, my TCV was $25/night, I only eat OMAD so that $15 was spent on a Burger and a Chicken Sandwich the next day… was great just #ChillaXing a couple of days, FREE charging to and from Vega$ ![]()
I got more offers from Fountainebleau $110/nt , Wynn AMEX spend $300 get $60 back, Rio Pay Resort Fee up to 4 nights, for this summer…will see what’s next. Vegas has really distanced itself from reality with the “CORPORATE” BS, they’re slowly trying to lure us back in-incentives, waiving fees, Resorts World waived Parking and Resort Fees till September, the struggle is real. Palms has $45/nt rooms. I NEED more miles on my Ioniq 5 hahaha that’s my only excuse these days ![]()
I’d stay there for $10/nt…
Oh, yeah… wasn’t fancy but 550 sq feet rooms, minifridge and kept my SPINDRIFT very cold, not renovated-which is fine with me, I only use the room to shower and sleep anyway… The other offers were $57/nt resort fee and comp room tax included, FREE parking -still not bad, but I used my lower $$ one first since it would have ended July 28th
Also, the Pool Drinks and Food is cheaper here than any other venue
What was that website for flights someone mentioned here before? We’re not checking bags and can hop off before a connection. All the flights I see to Miami have jumped from 1400 to 3000+ for 3 people in mid August ![]()
Where are you coming from? A great alternative airport is PBI
I can prob come from any major city easily. But everything I see mid August home is like $1k+ per person to USA. When I left 8 days ago they were like 500pp from many cities even direct. Everything jumped big time.
We flew Miami to Zurich for like $300 direct. Then went to Italy from there for nothing.
If I stayed another week it’s cheap again. Damn kids and school starting mid August…who starts school August 12? Seems crazy early we always started after labor day
Assuming you’re talking about flying from Europe>Miami then forget looking at one-way’s, just book a roundtrip with the return way off in the future. Use it, change it down the line to another date you can use, or just throw it away, all will be cheaper than a one-way.
For example, ZRH-MIA on Aug 12 with a return from JFK in January for $768. Lots of cheaper options around $650 if you don’t mind connecting in FRA, PHL, etc.
Damn that’s a hack if I’ve ever seen one. Crazy thank you would have never thought to even try that. I guess I’m going skiing in Switzerland in January
