Any Tesla experts?

Hi there!

So I’m considering picking up a Tesla. Either purchase of aa used Model X or a Model S lease takeover (as my business would be picking the tab up).

Anyone here have experience with either Model? Anyone well versed in the secondary Tesla market who could provide me some guidance on pricing/features?

Appreciate any insight!

Are you from SOCAL or Cali?

Must get a Model S with air suspension. Most lease takeovers great deals around in the 750-800$ range. Must have enhanced autopilot already enabled otherwise…why?

Some you will see are the base 60 model I recommend shooting for at least a 75D 2016+ so you can get a car without fitment issues and nick nacks. Tesla is refreshing their cars on a 18 month cycle so a 2015 is nothing like a 2018 (this is according to a Tweet from Elon himself).

Thanks for the information Phantom.

I’ve heard some folks mention that currently AP1 is better than AP2 (or whatever version it’s on now). Any truth to that? Based on what you aside it no longer (if ever) appears the case.

Regarding the Model S. Any suggestions on where I should look for the lease?

I just started looking on Tesla Motors club forums, Teslas for sale by owner on facebook and took a quick peek at the two lease swapping websites. Any other sources?

What would you consider a good value on a Model X?

Thanks again!

I’m in Virginia. I have family in California (north and south) if that makes a difference

There are more used Tesla’s in California than any state. So the opportunity to get good used deal is better. But living in a city with not good weather could get a deal too. This is what I found quick search on Lease take over:

If you see a good deal lease or purchase in Cali. I can help with negotiations, inspecting and shipping to VA.

Another one and pretty decent deal. I’d talk down the down payment in half.

The Model X is extremely expensive right now, good luck finding one that is reasonable priced. I would also be careful about getting one from any dealerships as Tesla will refuse extended warranty for you. Beware of lease takeovers as the residual on the cars are super high, it would not be worth it to buy the car at lease end. You have to be willing to burn whatever you put in the next several months. The pre July 17 Model X are also more problem prone, so beware when you buy them. I would say any VIN # that ends before 40xxx should be treated with caution.

AP1 cars should fall below that VIN range. Some parts of AP2 are better than AP1 while some others are worse. I would say AP1 is that .290 hitter with 20HR while AP2 is the .250 hitter with up to 40HR potential.

Model S should be a lot cheaper, but lately the price had been jacked up due to increase in demand and Tesla using it as loaner cars. I did have a lot of issue with the older seats on the Model S, so make sure you test drive them and make sure you like them. I would also try to avoid any cars without AP, they are going to lose a lot of value during trade in.

I have a 75D MX. I have to say it is one of the best car I have owned, it’s hard to go back to any car after. As much as I love the car, I do have to warn you they are not perfect vehicle. They do have many small QA issue and it does do many weird things that you have to be willing to live with.

BTW, I doubt you will find many MX for less than 75K, just remember a basic MX after the tax credit will run you 80K… Options are expensive on Tesla, so those are going to depreciate the fastest. I think the options that are worth the most are the 100D/90D pack (stay away from 85 and 60). Autopilot. I paid 90 something for my fairly loaded one with free supercharging.

If you order one now, you will get it around June. If you need a referral code, let me know so you get free supercharging

Actually I forgot to ask you a couple questions

#1 Do you have home or work charger?
#2 How often do you drive more than 200 miles?
#3 How tech savvy are you?
#4 The car is really wide, so it’s very difficult to park.
#5 I hope you like the sun, the giant windshield makes the car very hot

End of quarter tends to be a good time to buy. That’s when the “inventory” cars suddenly show up.

Demos make great leases, too, especially the loaded cars. Sometimes you can find a demo P100D for $30K off after adjustment, which translates to a lease that’s cheaper than a basic 75D.

As we know, a $130,000 MSRP car adjusted to $100,000 will lease for less than a full-price $95,000 MSRP car, because the residual is based on MSRP, not selling price.

Problem is that discounting 25% off 150K is still more than zero discount on 100K :joy:

Great FB group potential Tesla buyers. They manage to find and list all demos and “showroom deals.” Strong active community too.

You are trying to broker again, even if it’s for “tips or wine”. Either register as a broker or stop soliciting. Other than that, you can be a helpful free resource.

  1. No
  2. Rarely
  3. The most tech savy
  4. no problem
  5. I always forget to carry my sunglasses :frowning:

This one looks intriguing.

So When I look at a least payment of 772 on swap a lease, does that mean that I have to account for my tax as well?

Since you don’t have a home or work charger, you will have to rely on the supercharger. Even though it is free, you are looking at basically 1 hour at the station each time to do about 150 miles. You might say okay now, but after a while it will get hold. If you want to lease, I guess you can max it out. I normally charge to 80%, I only go up if I need it. I drive aggressive, so 150 miles is what I normally get at 80%

Oh i figured i’d get a charger installed at home. few hundred bucks?

It depends. How old is your house, you need a 40A or 50A 240 plug essentially. You should have 200A service.
